What I'm listening to right now...

Although the chorus voices are gearing to my ears. Listening to more of his stuff, it's a nice balance and very danceable

I wonder if they have instrumental mixes too.. that singing is so horrible it hurts. Why is timba doing this to me?
You might just not like the original way of how Rumba etc. is sung. That should be no problem, just don't listen to it! :p It is quite well sung here and has some absolutely amazing moments!
However, live concert recordings often are terrible when you listen to them later.

They are terrible live too. I've heard it too many times. And live you have to deal with chatter and self promotion and begging for applause.

There is quite a lot of timba that I like, but I'm afraid, if I'm gonna play it to the timba fans, they will run away in disgust :D :D :D

I'd be curious! Please post!

We started with singing qualities. So no context there? I like them by the way! :)
I'm like their singing, but I don't think there is really a timba band whose singing I enjoy a lot. Calle Real, Mayimbe, Havana D'primera, probably.. but I've not seen Mayimbe live.

Honestly, it really depends of what definition of "liking the singing" chooses for me to "sign" that I like the singing of a Timba singer. I will never feel the same about the singing of Dinah Washing, Nancy Wilson or Ella Fitzgerald (just to name some) like I feel listening to great soneros. The qualities are different, the technique is different, the musical focus is different. There is a couple of Timba bands where the singing actually disturbs me, but it's usually not "the big ones". And certainly it's not Paulito FG or Elito Reve.
And there is quite a couple salsa singers that don't really make me crazy either singing, specially cuerpos.

I think we discussed this already. What I can add, that I have no problem with punk rock singers being bad. Or people who sing their own songs. They can do what they want - it's their music.

No, but I get your point. All in all it's more about us, the listeners. In some contexts we have more tolerance than in others.

Still many people think it‘s from Los Van Van... But of course they just covered it. Strange for me by the way, I don‘t know why they did. It‘s a strange piece for being covered by them.
But a great tune! We used to go crazy whenever the DJ played it, until we started begging him not to play it any more, please!

Here the version by los Van Van
