What I'm listening to right now...

I've been listening to a lot of Revé y su Charangón lately, especially their live performances. I've been enjoying them a lot more than Van Van. Their (more direct) embrace of afro-cuban and changuí influences give them a sort of edge that tickles my brain just right.

(i love the incorporations of the chants to the orishas they added to this live version)

Probably the first salsa song I ever heard as a german teenager in the 80s. Somehow I had read in some music magazine about Mink deVille and bought their 1983 album. I liked this particular song with partially spanish lyrics. I didn't know what that was and nobody could have told me here because salsa was still unknown in europe. I still like that song.

This is closest to elevator music that was played tonight. I didn't know the song, so Shazamed to update @DJ Yuca on latest in Europe.

Anyone knows the musical references here? I've heard some, but can't remember.

It's definitely not elevator music, in fact it's a nice vintage mambo/Latin jazz track, although I don't consider it a good choice for dancing purposes. For one thing it starts off fast fast then later speeds up. Also there's at least 1 clave discrepancy, and I think the rhythm section would be better off playing more typical Cuban patterns. And it's nearly 6 minutes, which for a way out, fast track is a long time.

Maybe if I actually danced to it with a partner or I saw good dancers enjoying it I would change my mind, but for now I would say there are innumerable vintage mambos that are far easier and more enjoyable to dance to.

I don't recognise any references to anything. Which sections are you referring to?

Yeah, I thought it's too fast for me, so sat down to play congas. Couple minutes later they sped up and then Cuban parts disappeared. See how these DJs treat us? :D But we (percussion people at the party) survived and added Cuban back to this beautiful Mexican song.

Much of piano solos. But I can't put a finger what it is. Maybe some classical music, maybe Spanish. Let's try to summon @Latinjazz to straighten this out.

Carrying on the Beny More mood, I was listening o the tito puente homenaje a beny album last night, Celia Cruz's version of Yiri yiri bon is a stand out.

Never hear of this band before. Any other suggestions?
I only just heard of them myself via this thread https://www.salsaforums.com/threads/karen-cruz-and-jacopo-tavana-berlinsc.43132/, so no well settled recommendations, but...

This one stood out because of the title -- I guess this is that Cuban bachata rhythm, sounds similar but I can't really say what defines it.

You like fast? (Do we have a list of the fastest salsa recordings anywhere?)

There's a couple songs that seem very clearly inspired by some of those gritty Willie Colón songs, e.g.
