The Definition of Sabor!

i dont wanna create irrelevant discussion in videos section. i saw a bit exaggeration. this is what i think.

Haha I get the impression Leon was just trying to throw everything and the kitchen sink at that dance, to be fair to him there's plenty of video of him dancing with plenty of feeling. His performances, particularly are usually atypical and not just a spin/pattern fest.

He does have a strong tendency to do this when social dancing. Makes me wonder how that is, especially considering he's one of my favourite performers and his choreos are consistently creative and - yes, musical.

Btw, that party is on Wednesday, isnt it?
I mean, not a Thursday or Friday or Sunday night ;)

You love cryptic witty messages, don't you. :p Why don't you just state clearly what you mean? Okay, once again I will "translate": you are saying, would I still go to this event if it was at the same time, on the same day, as Cache? I would pick Taino Towers 70% of the time and Cache 30%. Same time as LVG? I would pick Taino Towers 60% of the time. Same time as Abakua? I would pick Taino Towers 50% of the time and Abakua 50% of the time. Luckily, I don't have to choose and can enjoy them all. :)

Also, the more I dance at Taino Towers the less I can enjoy the pattern monkey type of dances (which are rare in NY, but they do exist--had one the other night with a guy who was visiting from England--yes, it was exactly like what I had written before about English "style"). I try, I really do try to enjoy them, but it's hard when I know that all the guy would have to do to improve the dance 100% is to just slow down and enjoy the music.

Careful, don't criticize him on a public forum, he is very sensitive. Trust me, been there, done that.

A better video would be "bad" dancing from people of a similar age and ethnicity to the original, to a similarly-paced track

Sorry, you won't find Puerto Ricans dancing "badly", regardless of whether the song is slow or fast. :)

I've seen a good deal of latinos who were bad dancers, but they were never Puerto Rican.

But you haven't seen me dance... On a more serious note, this is a very nice compliment to Boricuas. I believe kbitten said a similar thing on another thread. So with a consensus of two, it must be true! On behalf of the puertorriqueños that you've seen dance or danced with, ¡gracias!

Son is danced on the 2-3-4, with the break step on2, right? That's what he was dancing.

Yep.. breaks on 2.. I have, however, seen it danced on 1 .

He wasnt dancing completely " Son " , but a blended style . Thats what I like.. (fits in better, with most followers ) .

The larger problem is, hearing music which is " traditional " Son being played. Most DJs wont entertain it. I do "spin " some ,on the odd occasion, if I get the chance, and the dancers are receptive .Still, the more modern Son song styles, are pretty good for a change of pace ( Monguito and Conjunto Criollo has some nice stuff for e.g.) .

I think they are much more sensitive about this kind of stuff as it took ages to fix forum athmosphere after the disaster thread.

I can't agree, all of that discussion was contained within one thread, and all of us (well barring one maybe) who were actively involved get along just fine! For example Dj Ara and I are totally in agreement on this thread :P I certainly came away better informed about Salsa in general than I was before that thread, though I wouldn't want to do it more than once a year ;)
