Which Salsa Congresses Or Major Events Do You Plan To Attend in 2020?

I had a registration for that marathon and was really hoping to be able to go as I haven't really done any social dancing since March/April, but now I've just sent them a message requesting my registration to be moved to Spring 2021 instead. As much as I would love both to travel and dance again, it just wouldn't feel right to go there right now. Especially as their numbers seem to be increasing again...

A friend of mine who had a pass for it also asked to have it moved to a future Marathon. The Czech Republic is being pounded right now. Would be very surprised if the PSM isn't officially canceled in the next 4 days.

El Sol is still on this year according to the organizer. SuperMario shares his experiences with Covid testing, quarantine and traveling around Europe despite all of the restrictions. Part of me feels like this is very optimistic. How many people are willing to get tested or go into quarantine just for El Sol?

How many are attending? Is there a testing at the Airport in El Sol?

Not that I plan to travel. After watching Mario‘s interview I looked up entry restrictions in Poland and Germany.

In short it is a bureaucratic mess with no rhyme, reason or logic behind it. E.g. Germany has a list of ”safe” countries. Not a big one. People from those countries are allowed to enter. It has restrictions for all other countries not on the safe list, except almost all European countries and UK :D Similar in Poland. Which doesn’t make a lot of sense since more than half of world’s hotspots are within EU.

What all the countries need to enforce is mandatory test on arrival for anyone coming in. If person is planning to stay for more than 5 days then two tests 72 hours apart should be mandatory. That will balance both the public health concerns as well as give a boost to the travel sector.

Ania guesses between 500-1000. I don't know about testing. Mario addresses that in the video but I didn't watch it till the end. They guess it will be a European only festival.

I sent a mail to them (the day before the deadline) to ask for it to be transferred, but didn't hear anything back. Today I (and I guess everyone else) received a mail asking to confirm my attendance or click another link to have my pass transferred.

The Prague Salsa Marathon scheduled at the end of the week was just canceled an hour ago.

I suspected as much, however it seemed the organizer was trying to do everything in his power to keep it going but so many people canceled (he said 160 cancelations last week) that he was forced to cancel.

Dancers seemed to have taken responsibility this time.

Berlin is the next scheduled major festival. Let's see what happens.

I don't think it's about responsibility. I was one of those who cancelled and the reason is that it is simply difficult to get there with the borders closing unpredictably, flights cancelled at random and mandatory quarantine upon return. You wanna go for 3 days but might end up getting stuck on the way there or back and then have to sit at home for ±10 days.

The Berlin Salsa Congress is currently underway. Apparently some parts - like social dancing - will be streamed and put onto their Youtube channel.

If you ever needed more reason to be envious...

That doesn't look like a festival, not even like a social! Something odd seeing what would normally be termed an empty floor, due to social distancing.

saw my favorite social dancer dance. lol.

Do you want us to ask who? :D

Fav follower or fav leader ?

P.S.[10 minutes later] - I think I guessed.

It's easy to figure out if you watch the video from the very beginning. But maybe I should adjust that answer and say "one of my favorite followers to dance with"

Looks like a small gathering of dancers to me. In some ways, I prefer it over crowded social dance halls. Also, with the masks, it's very hard to tell who is who, which may mean you won't get as many hard rejections :p

I wonder if all that dancing distance is mandatory since there never seems to be more than 4-5 couples on the floor at one time.

The Salsa party in Taipei looks better than the actual festival

Same here. I think the vibe of an over crowded dance floor is different.

LOL. Agree.

I have a hard time recognizing without mask. Last year at Milan (as I have narrated before), I asked the same girl on four consecutive nights and each time she said no. On each of the three successive nights, I only remembered who I asked immd after she said no :D It was a funny situation. I should have known since she had a friend and most of the time they would stand together. Her friend and I danced about 6 or 7 times over the four days.

I realized that seems to be an afternoon social. 8 hours back from now would be like 2.30pm there? Shouldn't there be a live stream now as it is night in Berlin. Don't think there would be any performances going on.

I suspected who it might before playing the video ;) but she isn't dancing at the beginning beginning :p well eleven minutes of five and half hour video is a beginning but still...

Here is a live stream of the night time dancing.

Different vibe for sure. Also, if I recall, there are no big names giving workshops at this event (with the exception of Super Mario). Most of the workshops are being given by social dancers. If that's true, then it's possible that the dance floor will have more of a marathon feel. This is way different than previous BSC iterations. The DJs are also being heavily promoted. I guess because the focus is more on having different DJs streaming around the world.

Watching DJs stream the music to Berlin is like the ultimate troll move. They could play literally anything and the crowd wouldn't be able to do a thing about it.

Something about being incognito while dancing with a mask at a congress makes me feel like going. Dang. I should have planned better.

I liked the idea of streaming music live using different DJs from around the world direct to the congress. It gives more options for music instead of having to see the same 10-20 DJs all the tíme. I also enjoyed the live video feed of the dancing when it was available. I also saw another first, which was live streaming a workshop.

I would definitely look to keep these in the future.
