Which Salsa Congresses Or Major Events Do You Plan To Attend in 2020?

I think at this point it makes more sense to talk about which events are still active... We can assume everything is canceled unless stated otherwise.

Just got an invitation to the Salsa Dance Festival in Portoroz, Slovenia from July 28/07 - 02/08. It seems it will fill the beach festival void left behind by Rovinj.

If anyone hasn't been, Portoroz/Piran is an amazing place. I've always wanted to go back.

If the event is still a go come July, this will be packed with Europeans. I am a bit weary of attending just because I think the international turn-out will make it riskier.

Judging from their Instagram feed, the organisers for the Malta Dance Festival seem optimistic that they can pull off an event. It's scheduled for the end of October. At the moment, Malta is closed to all commercial air traffic, though they tentatively due to reopen on July 15. I do have a free pass for this year's event, so I'm hoping the stars will align so that it ultimately happens.

My client is moving to Malta in July and expects it will go smoothly. Btw, he's driving through Italy to get there then taking a Ferry.

It is too early. I will be interested but depends if on how the things are between now and then.

Over 5000 people in close confine place from all over the world doesn’t look a good recipe right nowI I won’t be surprised if there is COVID outbreak from the congress. It will be 5-14 days after the congress that it could show up. Infected dancers would have carried it to their home countries.

I hope in the intervening period the science is able to establish with better certainty any risks at events like this, who is immune and hopefully a treatment is found by then.

If they can administer the test before handing out wrist band, that will be better.
 
Looks like there is some kind of salsa event happening in Rovinj. I saw a live stream with people dancing and DJs playing music.

Seems to be a cobeatparty thing. They should really update their hash tags. They promote #staysafe #stayhome but they are in Croatia :D
 
Seems to me there will not be any events of more than 50 people any time soon.

OTOH, my idea of using salseros as the vaccine test population has not been considered yet.

Imagine this:
5,000 people, all vaccinated with (experimental) vaccine, tested for antibodies then let loose on each other. Tracked and traced after the event to see if they have immunity or became covid positive.

Each vaccine mfr could organize their own salsa congress or better yet contract with an organizer. The only prerequisite to attend: agree to have the vaccine injected.

I think this idea is better than the proposed vaccine challenges where they would purposely infect a test person in the trial with the virus to see if they get sick or not.

Good idea to milk Big Pharma to get more live bands in festivals and free flights. Downside would be that population is pretty preselected. The years of groping and licking each other while constantly swapping partners and drinking rum must have weeded out those with weak immune systems already.
 
The first festival I've seen taking place this weekend is the Hungary Summer Salsa/Sensual Festival at Lake Balaton.

I saw a live video and around 200 people dancing in multiple rooms.

I was asked if I was going and I said, "um... no"

we will have to wait two weeks.
 
Warsaw is likely to happen simultaneously in different hotels, i.e. hotel for salsa, hotel for bachata and hotel for kiz with say 500-600 people in each.

Berlin seems to be happening marathon style.

I'm also considering Bulgaria in August.
