Which Salsa Congresses Or Major Events Do You Plan To Attend in 2015?

VMC got the Hilton to reduce the rate to $159C (plus taxes). Not at all bad for the four star hotel. I got cheap tickets on Air Canda. Vanc is on!

If anyone (you know) is looking to share a room, I have one now!
Any thoughts about VMC?

I am going to my 2nd congress tomorrow. .. canada salsa & Bachata congress just for the Friday and Sunday socials since I did the whole thing last month and i don't want to spend too much this time around.

To my fellow SFers who are thinking about coming to the Seattle Salsa Congress. Here is some information about the welcome party.:

The organizer just added Delia Madera to an already star-studded lineup!!! Wow eeeeeee. Seattle Salsa Congress ,a congress for dancers by dancers!!!
That's seriously the best congress I've been to, but the date is so inconvenient I won't be able to make it this time. The welcome party last year was memorable... cha cha cha with Anita, La Conga playing bachata, lol! Mayimbe is also a great DJ, and the lineup this year is terrific.

We will certainly miss you this year! I hope other Sfers can make it. There is always next year, remember you're always welcome.

Oh, that's too bad!! Maybe you can change plans, this year is not to be missed!!! It's going to be insane, people are coming from everywhere!

Any ideas about social dancing in Vienna Congress? Right now it seems too expensive for me just go and check.

It's insanely expensive. Picture Berlin, without any headliners or live bands. If I didn't live 60 kms away from Vienna, I wouldn't go. Last two congresses were okay, but nothing to write home about. Vienna needs international people to come in order to bring the scene up, because on its own, it's quite lackluster.

Hi guys, me and a bunch of people from my local scene are going to the El Sol Festival in Warsaw this coming weekend. Thought I'd take the opportunity to ask for some advice on which workshops to attend, given the amount of experience here. Schedule is listed here: http://www.salsafestival.pl/workshops/schedule/. Some background:
  • Been dancing LA style since February, pretty active. I dance 2-5 times a week, with a mix of privates, classes, practice with a partner and social dancing (1-3 times a week).
  • Would probably describe myself as an improver (workshops in Warsaw are listed as open/improver/intermediate/advanced) or advanced beginner.
  • Would like to avoid classes consisting mainly of endlessly long patterns and instead focus on technique classes. While I have a decent repetoire of moves I'd rather focus on solid basic technique and smooth execution and partner connection over learning even more moves. Have a pretty big backlog from last weekend's congress anyway...
  • Try not to overload on number of classes. We just had a congress in my city, 4 classes a day over 2 days + parties was fairly exhausting, but manageable (I'm in pretty good shape). Will try to get an hour of two or sleep during the day though - the afterparties go all the way until 10 AM!
Here's what I'm thinking so far:

I'm a bit unsure about Super Mario's intermediate classes, I seem to recall reading his classes tend to be very pattern heavy?

Also to note, I'd like to learn NY style eventually, but not sure when - there aren't more than 8-10 follows in my city who dance on2, so I need to do both styles if so. So prob ditching on2 in Warsaw to concentrate on LA for now.

Realllly looking forward to seeing La Maxima 79 & Jimmy Bosch play together live, among my two favorite current salsa artists/bands!

Would appreciate any and all advice :)

Frankie's Afro-body movement/spin classes and both Maykel Font's classes. Can't go wrong with those guys, if it is technique you're after.

Yeah, all four of those classes are locks for sure! Same with Jimmy Bosch's musicality class, I assume it's a talk more than a dance class (which is fine by me).
