Unfortunately, talking about Warsaw, or fortunately actually...Are you talking about the Seattle congress?
Your comment was after one about Seattle, so, I was hoping... maybe...Unfortunately, talking about Warsaw, or fortunately actually...
Talal is good. I'd go to Kwenda Lima, everyone raves about him, but it might be packed. Watch Eddie Torres while relaxing. Troy Anthony is good, if that's the one from Houston. If they accidentally put Mek in, he's great.Hi guys, me and a bunch of people from my local scene are going to the El Sol Festival in Warsaw this coming weekend. Thought I'd take the opportunity to ask for some advice on which workshops to attend, given the amount of experience here. Schedule is listed here: http://www.salsafestival.pl/workshops/schedule/. Some background:
Here's what I'm thinking so far:
- Been dancing LA style since February, pretty active. I dance 2-5 times a week, with a mix of privates, classes, practice with a partner and social dancing (1-3 times a week).
- Would probably describe myself as an improver (workshops in Warsaw are listed as open/improver/intermediate/advanced) or advanced beginner.
- Would like to avoid classes consisting mainly of endlessly long patterns and instead focus on technique classes. While I have a decent repetoire of moves I'd rather focus on solid basic technique and smooth execution and partner connection over learning even more moves. Have a pretty big backlog from last weekend's congress anyway...
- Try not to overload on number of classes. We just had a congress in my city, 4 classes a day over 2 days + parties was fairly exhausting, but manageable (I'm in pretty good shape). Will try to get an hour of two or sleep during the day though - the afterparties go all the way until 10 AM!

I'm a bit unsure about Super Mario's intermediate classes, I seem to recall reading his classes tend to be very pattern heavy?
Also to note, I'd like to learn NY style eventually, but not sure when - there aren't more than 8-10 follows in my city who dance on2, so I need to do both styles if so. So prob ditching on2 in Warsaw to concentrate on LA for now.
Realllly looking forward to seeing La Maxima 79 & Jimmy Bosch play together live, among my two favorite current salsa artists/bands!
Would appreciate any and all advice![]()
Thanks for the input. I know absolutely zilch about kizomba so far...gonna start learning it in a month with a private teacher, but for now I'm afraid I'll have to sit out any kizomba classes. Good tip on watching ETTalal is good. I'd go to Kwenda Lima, everyone raves about him, but it might be packed. Watch Eddie Torres while relaxing. Troy Anthony is good, if that's the one from Houston. If they accidentally put Mek in, he's great.
Warsaw proved itself again as world's best salsa festival. Made me happy. For next year one should book hotels as soon as possible.![]()
What did you like? why is it better than other congresses?
According to my facebook feed, it seems that it was a lot about pre-parties![]()
wow...great. Now it has already passed. It would be great if you could tell us about it. Give us a review plzz. Thank you.I was just booked to play at the NYC Salsa Congress on Sunday Sept 6. Woo-hoo, gonna be lookin' out all ya'll SF dancers!
The concerts were amazing! I like Maxima's/Bosch's music better, so for me it was the highlight of the weekend. Dancing to an awesome live band for the first time was such a treat2) Check the bands: Alexander Abreu y Havana D´Primera on Friday, Jimmy Bosch and La Maxima 79 on Saturday.
I have a serious Problem with getting enough sleep in. went to bed around 6, but already woke up again around 9 and could not get in more real sleep. Had the same Problem in Riga and Hamburg. I guess my body cant cope with the schedule change.
Anyone taking any "stuff" to help em sleep? Pills, herbs whatever?
I'll visit my Pharmacy, lets see what they have that does not need prescription. Melatonin seems to be forbidden here...
