The Romantica style goes over big in some latino clubs stateside . As to the : 'Name that song' section there is a lot of stuff I personally would not play but, music as you know, is subjective. My guide lines in my selections are ,would I dance to this song ( with a few exceptions ).and never play warp speed music .

Since back here I've also DJd R and R with 50/60s music. Much easier when playing ;Standards ' !! .



haven't checked the NTS section recently will have to go back and see what is new.
 
Just checked out quite few songs on the NTTune section. Nothing that excited me but one song by Machito . I think a word that came to mind for the rest was 'Bland'
 

On first listen, the new Grupo Niche is okayish (hedging my bets). This one gets better once it gets started, but then it's over almost immediately once the best part begins.
 

On a non-salsa-related tip, I like the short album this comes from a whole lot. Tora seems to be from Argentina. Sounds a bit like jazzy MPB. I'm not seeing much buzz about this artist, but I feel that there has to be more of an audience for her out there somewhere.

It's hard to find out more, but I think the singer is Silvia Aramayo, Argentinian as you said.
And this video you posted seems to be some collaboration with a group called Tora - which I don't think is the Australian Tora... Either this is another band called the same way or it's even the name of her new record waiting to be released? No idea.

I just know I like Silvia Aramayo's music a lot, and her teachers - some of them I know - are from the absolute top of the argentinian music scene.

Really nice! The beginning really sounds like a spiritual or gospel, after it's more jazzy.
Could be a Guaguanco part too, though - they often sound similar because they use a similar scale.
Listen to Tin Tin Deo - in the beginning it also sounds a bit "gosply" - but it works also for Guaguanco melodies.

Only thing I don't like about this record: I don't like when the whole percussion set is just a carpet with no interacion with the music.
