What I'm listening to right now...

Calichiris10, I see in your post you really like the old style guaguanco's / mambo's
What do you think of this one ?

Note I made the picture from the original LP cover, the original LP cover (front and back) wil be shown after a while.

I'm not a DJ but i could make a good gig with this kind of music.

I'd say Guaracha!

Maikel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor - La Masa
Heard this tune at a party last Saturday and loved it. Yay for Soundhound :)

And it's keeping the vibe of that fantastic night alive!

That's a great album, fun because it has the energy of a live performance. the alst CD "A toda máquina" has one live song on it "El Kilo", which is also fun. Personally I've been listening to Juan Guillermos' latest CD "Que no me controlen"

Thanks for the heads up! I'm keeping my eye out if I can buy the album somewhere at a decent price :)

Since I tend to gravitate towards Timba in the tunes I like most at a random social, but don't really have a feeling for what sets Timba apart from Salsa, I bought a 3CD collection called 'Beginner's Guide To Timba', which has one CD with '90s, one with '00s and one with current (2010) Timba.
So right now I'm listening to that, starting with this one :)

Yeah you could say its a guaracha...most guarachas use guitar but in this song the piano replaced the guitar.

hehehe......... maybe in the 1800s most guarachas used guitar, but you know that in the 1900s many conjuntos played and recorded guarachas...... and every conjunto had and have piano (today keyboard)

the audio on this old live air play is not so great, but I still enjoy this old guaracha by Roberto Faz y su conjunto

best regards

hehehe........ I agree with what you said, but in the early 1900s the guitar began to loose ground as the favorite intrument in cuban music, by the 1940s you rarely saw cuban music played mainly by guitars, Miguel Matamoros expanded his trio to septeto and to conjunto

the guitar is one of my favorite instruments, and i still like to listen to guarachas played by Duos, Trios, Cuartetos, etc

best regads

Strange that the pic in the video is from a modern song and not from the band that recorded El Temba. Yes, this is classic! From CHs great era. My favorite CD is Tremendo Delirio. Michel has such a great vocal range. I guess maybe you don't have a feel for an exact description of how timba and salsa differ but you must be able to hear in songs like these that these songs are different (more aggressive, modern, hardcore IMO oh and more fun to dance to LOL)

Great songs such as Lola, Lola

Lo siento por ti

Dime que te quedarás

hehehe...... maybe i'm using the wrong approach to give you my opinion, all i'm trying to say is that most guarachas have used piano long ago

True, Compay Segundo played guitar and cuban tres all his life, we saw him in the Buena Vista Social Club

best regards, take care

the spanish guitar and the cuban tres always have been an important part of cuban music, with out a doubt, they still are an important part of cuban music today

best regards
