This week in my dancing I'm working on...

Cuban motion. During my last private, I had one of this "ah-ha" moments. I can't exactly do it right at dance speed. But I really finally understand.

This week am working on spins, body action, musicality, and stamina. Ramping up to start hitting the salsa venues after a long hiatus.

Getting that copa and half coke right. I've had a few fundamental leads that I've been avoiding in socials, but I think it's time I fixed those holes.

I had a salsa class with a visiting instructor/friend yesterday (only 4 students joined so it was a semi-private)
After three years without regular social dancing or practice or class, I noticed:
- I'm still doing ok on my following,
- I'm still doing ok on my turns and spins,
- My timing is ok
(None of them are great but considering the circumstances...)

- My body movement is a mess and it was so painful to see in the mirror :( (This has always been my weakest part)

So this week I'm working on my body movement.
I even found a studio next to my office with two full mirror walls that they are renting for a very low price per hour so I'll go back there to practice, practice, practice.

I hope I can improve until the next class next weekend and then my friend will unfortunately leave us again.

I've been doing more guy-on-guy lead/follow swapping recently in various styles.

Over the weekend danced with Etian Antuche Almeida doing both leading and following Cuban salsa. Must say it's sometimes more fun dancing with pro guys than it is with pro girls! Got to be something wrong there. lol.

Now that I'm used to the new dates for salsa events in my (new) city, I'm currently working on doing a quick body movement routine everyday, while trying to spend two or three days working on basics as well as incorporating new moves from my various congress workshop clips.

Just about everything except salsa so far, jazz, ballet, stretching....the last needs a lot of work, I am being majorly outflexed by 70 year olds! I would use a shocked emoticon, except sadly I am not shocked, sigh.

Taking the jerky body movement out of my repertoire. Saw an Alien clip where she did a killer body ripple that looked SO good. I could have done the same but would have put more jerk in it. Her execution looks 10x better than mine would have. So she's got me thinking that ALL my jerk needs to go. Will do more fluid executions going forward....
