Salsa open diary

I was wondering, what is considered innovative in partner dancing,

I don’t think I could conceive of anything that would be considered innovative. Improving upon what I already know is the most I can aim for. That improvement will lead to some stylistic choices but I don’t try to be innovative nor do I think it is necessary.

In a much broader sense, I think true innovation is rare. I think most of what we see are trends. Having said that, I can’t think of any trend that I want to last.

My recent strategy is to take some energy vitamins (the active forms of B12 and folate) and electrolytes with me on intense dance nights :) I had my electrolyte powder with me at FIC, would refill my water bottle every hour and add the electrolytes, worked like a charm, had some of my best (energy-wise) dance nights ever :)
I tend to drink a couple beers at festivals, I wonder if the combination of vitamins and alcohol would be good or bad in terms of energy level.

My friend used to swear by red bull + hard alcohol. I never tried because I wanted to live.
Jager bombs ain't no thang. But terrible at a festival unless you can practice control (which is non existent in restaurant workers). For all the talk about sips, at Congress I don't like getting drunk (strong buzz maybe just st the beginning) and hate even more dancing with really drunk follows.

My friend used the above concoction for extra boost of energy at festivals and it didn’t affect her dancing negatively (she claimed). Health is my primary concern nowadays and I’d rather go to sleep than continue dancing if it gets to that point.

I had a drunk follow stap on my toes with a pointy heel and my toe nail and my toe were stuck halfway through the top of my shoe.

Went to a Social today. All Dura. But the duration of the Bachata was painful. I started to nod off on the 4th consecutive Bachata song...Luckily it was not BS but still.....

I just got back from dancing at Lithuanian house in Toronto.
I had a LOT of compliments tonight (and a return client of high level ask me from the first week I went.
Ironically 2 girls said "nope" (actual quote) to me so in same song I ventured toward the dj booth direction. Oh man glad I did. I danced the most effortless dance i had danced in years.
I also danced with a lovely woman fro. Paris. Lower I guess in level than what you see on you tube. She isnt aware of the style she dances. She follows everything. She was so nice and accepting of my shenanigans lol (and hot AF with her large semi afro)

Having a Salsa Romantica day today. I think the best way to dance to it is just doing the basics in a very tight closed position. To me it feels way more in touch with the music than doing partner work.
