Salsa open diary

And yet classes with more and more complicated moves tend to be more popular than those that focus on different timings, doing moves well etc.

So meeting my biggest salsa crush ever has had the unexpected side effect -- besides a ton of dance happiness :) -- of reviving my passion for linear salsa :) After dancing dozens of dances with him at my recent two Paris parties, I'm all of a sudden listening to linear salsa at home again (which I hadn't done in years, except for a brief Cobeat period last year) and even started practicing salsa at home, which I hadn't done in a very long time.

Dancing with him has made salsa feel really exciting again :) With him it feels like fluidly smooth and connected musicality and playfulness, so I can enjoy each moment and get lost in the music and the connection and the dancing to a degree that I didn't think was possible in salsa.

Cant you at least wait until your current husband gets old, fat and ugly first?!

Lately I have seen a lot of average dancers charge large sums for workshops. I have seen some people charge 40-50 euro for a workshop. If they were pro dancers 40-50 Euros would make sense, but for these people I would say 5 EUR would be a fair price, maybe maximum 10 Euros although I think it would be a stretch.

40-50 Euros for a Salsa workshop is absurd.

Private lessons with a very good teacher are usually less than that. A friend of mine took private lessons with a very famous instructor for like 25 euros.

that sounds insanely cheap. The shittiest instructor in Israel who has been dancing for 2 years and teaching for six months would charge that. A good local instructor/performer would charge almost double (or more) for an hour.

I’ve found Salsa private lesson pricing to be completely arbitrary.

It always struck me as odd that Salsa teachers were making on average more than private music teachers. Yet they charge physio rates, but they definitely aren’t worth the same as PTs.

I’ve also seen the other side of the spectrum where Salsa teachers were severely undercharging for their services in bad markets.

In any case, I am so glad I never spent money on Salsa wheel of fortune.

So during the pandemic I wasn't really listening to salsa music (other than the Cobeat sets in the beginning) because it would just remind me of not being to dance for a long time.

Now that I am back to dancing, and especially after all the marvelous dancing I did at the Paris parties Sunday and Tuesday (see above :) ), my appetite for salsa music has reopened :) (I always kind of "dance in my head" as I listen to salsa and now I can do that again without the pandemic lack-of-dance sadness)

Currently listening to this awesome Spotify playlist which makes me relive the recent Paris dancing :D https://open.spotify.com/playlist/01apWwHtFlmOziHGUV1foI?si=99e81ef0bc4d48ff
Great list! Already added 3 of the first 4 to my current playlist (had the first one already). Love finding treasure trove playlists!

Finding myself slooowly listening to more salsa again as well.
