I've gotten into that habbit too, mostly on underarm turns. Haven't seen it on video, but I bet it looks like I'm trying to be a little teacup(oh and it looks like Jolinia does it too)...can I blame this one on all the short latino guys around here? :eyebrow:
My partner in life has a small stock of dumb moves she brings out when I am least expecting them. She has always been a great teaser. One of them is that sinking down sorta thing la gringa describes. The lead can't prevent it in most situations and she's got control until she comes up .... it's especially funny when to do this the lady ducks down out of some hold or other.
Another is that common move when from two-hands open hold I do a half turn and wrap her arms round my waist while I change hands. She hangs on and cocks her leg round mine from behind.
There are others but what she's trying to do is hijack so I have a problem to solve and I bust out laughing.
But girls, no more than once in a dance, huh?!
I dont know the chest thrust thingy so I'm gonna go with A. Any sort of bottom dropping move. I think Ive seen Edie do it. But I can't think of a known name to summon up that does it on the regular. Guess that's an open niche for me!! (NOT) Meanwhile, I split my pants the last time I tried it. So uhmmm... yea.Huh? Salseras channeling snoop? I can't picture this. Do you mean the one where she drops to a squat and then bounces back up quickly? or the chest-thrust thingy?
I've got a new 'dumb move' where I turn myself, putting the follow's hand on my neck. But instead of releasing it there so it sweeps around my neck, I hold it lightly with my fingers, so her arm pulls us in close as I finish my turn. A couple partners seem to think it's cute (or else they're too polite to complain:roll.
I used to, maybe still do, turn my head in the direction I'm leading the girl. Like in a CBL I turn my head to the left. If I turn the girl to the left, I might turn my head to her left. Wierd. I have gotten some compliments from the girls about it though. Seems it makes it easier to follow me when I do it, so I haven't been too quick to lose it.

I was going to mention that I have been keeping my hand or arm in back of my back during turns. Which often leads to looks from the lead like I am strange to do that. However, I started this as a solution to the how do I know when the lead wants my hand where he left it (kind of dumb when spelled out)! Now, my hand is in back of my back and Tuesday night someone told me it was right where it was supposed to be. That was a 1st! But typically, I get looks KWIM.

Definitely. If the lead puts your hand somewhere, he expects it to stay there. He's probably got something up his sleeve. The general rule is that he has 8 beats to retrieve the hand. After that you can take your hand back and do what you want with it. I think that rule is a bit limiting though. I think it should be at least 2 8 counts before you reclaim ownership of your hand. The best and most advanced followers keep their hand where I put it indefinitely. The ones who take their hand away and chide me for complaining are generally of the high level intermediate variety. If you were to remove it coming out of your turn, he'd have reason to mutter under his breath.
If he wants your hand somewhere else after your turn then he should offer his clearly and with time for you to respond gracefully.
If however you're placing your hand behind your back all by yourself when the lead hasn't put it there ..... well, that's a dumb move!
It should be very clear that the leader wants the hand. If it's not clear, she shouldn't take it. When I want to make sure my follower doesn't grab my hand, I make it difficult for her to take it, sometimes by balling it into a fist. There are some moves that I put my hand behind my back and expect the girl to take it from there, say just before she does a CBL. I have a couple of cool moves that require this. But sometimes I don't want the girl to take the hand, so I put that hand into a fist. This doesn't always hold for leads though. It's often a good plan for the lead to put his free hand behind his back, concealing it from the follow's view, if he doesn't want to follow to look to take it as she comes out of a turn.
Or to make it clear that he doesn't want it.If his free hand's waving about in front of her, she's likely to try to take it (which is what she should be doing). An alternative is for him to place his free hand on his hip so it's clear that it is not on offer.
