Geez, you guys wrote a lot. I will write a few points or my observations.
1. Dancing and dating. I agree with
xoc123.
Maybe it's a difference between USA and Europe? I tend to think the beginners will more likely to make a move on dance partners than more serious dancers. It's completely normal if you find instructors married each other and open business together. But just talking about social dancers, We aren't looking for a date. We all have lives outside the dance clubs/schools. The reason we are here to dance is dancing make us happy, and satisfied. Most of the serious dancers that I know in Boston area tend to seperate the dance life and private life. Some of them won't even share phone numbers with you, "I will see you when I see you!". I am the same way. I have two phone numbers, one is for dancing only. Some dance friends do have my private number, but they know which number to use for what reasons. Beginners, some of them enter the field just to hook up with girls..., maybe they will make moves. I won't. words travel fast. I don't want any bad stuff going around about me in the dance circle.
2. Sexual tension during the dance.
It happens. I personally don't get that much but there were a few girls did compare dancing (with me) to having sex. We had those conversations. I know I dance with girls closely. But like I said, I personally don't feel that way often.
The other day, I watched a very strong man dancing with a girl I know. The dance was wonderful. He was an excellent dancer. And he was able to raise her up in the air gracefully and etc... She wasn't thin... Let's just say, she left with a facial expression.
3. Bachata got banned.
There is a HBO documentary about Bachata music. Bachata was originated from the brothels, among prostitutes and their customers. The government banned the dance because it was too popular among the people with the lowest social rank.
4. Sensual dances are mood dances in close position.
If you are coming from Salsa side of latin dance, you dance to the music. But if you are a zouk dancer, dance other sensual dances is nothing new or unexpected.
