Has dancing restarted in your place ? Are masks used ? Are you dancing socially as of today ?

You don't dance cha or there was no one to dance cha?

I mentioned in other threads, I can't connect to the music; does nothing for me. I tried a full year of Salsa, Dominican Bachata, Hustle and Chacha. Only Salsa music and movement jived with me. When I hear and watch the others, I don't mind watching but I don't feel anything.

I don't like watching people fo chachachá because it looks self indulgent and I imagine they get aroused by looking in the mirror.

The salsa scene in London is gradually starting up again. MamboCity had its first social since February 2020 last night. One wondered whether it would still be feasible when, in the first half hour, there were 15 guys to 3 girls, but in the second hour, more people came and the gender balance was back to equality (more or less). It was a decent turnout for first social in August.

Two cornerstones of the salsa scene have announced their restarts. SOS (Salsa on Sunday) restarts on September 5 back in their main venue. El Grande is back at their 4-room venue on September 17. I'm curious to see what the turnouts for each of them will be.

Rasa (London dancer with youtube channel) was quarantined with Covid.

The salsa nights in my hometown in Romania have surprisingly tripled since pre-pandemic. Now there are three nights a week instead of one. Also the new venues are nicer.

Also, somehow the level of dancing is way better than pre-pandemic. I went dancing on Friday and was shocked to find a much better level of dancing than pre-pandemic. There were some really good leads. I've been dancing here every year when I come home, for the last few years, and this was my best local night of salsa ever!

None of the two socials I attended this month in August checked at the door to see if we had a negative Covid test from a lateral flow check, even though in the flyers for the events, it was strongly suggested that we take one before coming out. My suspicion is that if they enforced this, then both socials would have been at most half full.

As it was, the social I attended was packed with new dancers and familiar faces. So packed that I decided to take self-tests on Monday and today to see if I caught it, even though I have no symptoms. Both tests negative. The UK Gov is supposedly requiring nightclubs to ask for proof of vaccination from the end of September, which I'd be happy with, though I'm not sure if this is actually going to happen.

Keep in mind the self tests have very high false negative rate if taken when you don't have symptoms. So best to save them for if you get symptoms (here they are quite expensive too).

At the moment, the self tests are free from the NHS. I am mindful of the test rate, hence the testing on multiple days. The incubation period is, on average, 5 days, so if I test again on, say, Sunday, and I still get a negative, the chances are high that I didn't pick it up. More detail can be found here on the test kits that are available:

...and even if I get an unlikely positive test, I would book for a (free) PCR test to make sure it's not a false positive.

With the antigen tests false negatives are much more likely than false positives -- basically they're not that sensitive, so during the no-symptoms stage they're less likely to pick up a true positive (and are more likely to show a false negative).

But if they're free, then sure, have at it :)
