Don't care how good Frankie is $250 is a rip off! Doesn't seem very spiritual to me either.

It depends on your values and priorities. I would not pay even $50.00 for superbowl tickets or a Rolling Stones concert but there are people who pay 10, 20 times that and for them it is a steal.
Also, remember, it is not the dancing, it is the name you are paying for!

Yes Nikki & those people tend to have big pockets! Salsa is becoming just big business they might not be in it for the love of Afrocuban music anymore!

We're probably being a bit hard on the guy.

At the end of the day he's worked hard to make himself a "name", and that hard work deserves some kind of financial recognition.

If we were talking about someone that had studied law for years and was now an established legal practitioner, then a lucrative hourly rate would be seen as pretty much par for the course.

I think if the guy can get students knocking on his door who are willing to pay these kinds of hourly rates for dance classes then good luck to him.

I just wouldn't be prepared to pay this myself - and neither would anyone else here judging by the comments.

Was just browsing the internet for TV listings and noticed that Giancarlo Esposito has a striking resemblance to Frankie Martinez. They could easily be brothers or better yet, stand ins for each other in movies! :)

Love of the afrocuban music? Some dancers (like Frankie and some others) only job is the dance! Do you expect something for free out of love? hmm.... maybe you can provide some free services for the rest of us in whatever job you do, "just out of love" :D

meh...id pay it for sure.

to be honest its not paying for the name, in my opinion frankie is the best mambo dancer alive (i know everyone has their own different ideas on who the best dancer is but this is just me) ie done 2 classes with him before and he is a really good teacher, he really gets the message across, plus hes really an inspitration to me.

yes $250 is alot i wouldnt pay it for anyone else, not because they dont have as big a name as frankie but thats just because theyre not my idol. the fact that i dont think that $250 is too much and yet i wouldnt pay that for anything else (concert, clothes...maybe a congress pass...if frankie was teaching..lol) is a good indicator of how much dancing has taken over my life (and my bank account)

:? Do we know anyone who has actually done a class taught by Frankie Martinez........?

We know two things:

1. He IS a fantastic dancer.

2. $250 IS a lot.

I would love to know if he is a fatastic teacher, worthy of the amount he charges (ie. one would expect to get more out of his class than just the name)..........

I've attended one of his classes during the congress 2 years ago. Though I wasn't dancing on 2 at that time I still think it was interesting experience. He is definietely very good teacher. Whether you should buy privates at that price from him depends on three factors:

1. whether you have this kind of money to spend
2. if you are professional dancer so that you may really use his tips and comments about your dancing
3. if you are really so crazy about dancing mambo

For me only the third point is fulfilled :)

i have never done a private class with him but i have done 2 group classes with him and yes he is a really good teacher. the only private ive done before is with edie and it was 100GBP and it was defiinitely worth it. The next time im in close proximity to frankie and hes available i will take a private with him.

Maybe the $250 has to do with what is being taught in his private classes? On another note, if Frankie's prices are $250 per hour, Eddie Torres must be at least $1000 an hour.  Italiansalsaking, how are you doing so far? :)

Hi Salsachinita,
I take several of his group classes every week (partner work, styling, body movement, spinning, cha cha cha) and they are fantastic. We definitely learn things that would not learn anywhere else.

I guess if you dont live in NYC and come here for a few days only, of course u'll get a lot more from private classes rather than group classes. Is it worth $250? Thats relative, depends how much money you have and how do you want to spend it.

it will be really nice to hear from someone who has had a private with him ? I am also very intrigued on the subject

peach i havent really done anything lol i have been so busy i want to set up a time with thomas guerra and also one of eddie torres teachers melissa gives privates so maybe i will do that also i currently causaly go to a instructer here who is very smooth just doesnt have that ny flair i wish i could justify $250 i love frankie but like someone said if you cant walk dont go to a running instructer altough its not that severe i have been dancing a year and ahalf and would say i am above average but we will see maybe i will break down and take one lol
