Best compliments ever!

Nice job, Jambo!

Most flattering comment I have received recently was when someone told me I was the most musical leader they'd danced with in years! It was nice to get complemented on a particular aspect. (especially one that is dear to my heart right now!)

When I am really bowled over by a dance, I clam up and will probably say "thanks, that was really good" then run away before she thinks I'm hitting on her, or before she says something like "well, I did my best though I was suffering for the whole song from your sucky moves!"

Lol yeah dancing is a tricky situation. Some people may take that as a hitting technique. It happened to me as well :)

Ooh I’ve got one! From one of my good dancer friends who hosts a small weekly on 2 event in Tokyo, and I go almost every week. He helped me transition into on 2 shortly after I started salsa almost 3 years ago, and he’s a great dancer and been dancing for over 20 years. He said that I’ve gotten so good, he felt like he needed to start learning and trying new things again

Little bit of background story first, I’m a quite tall follow living in dancing in Japan, land of tiny people. My dance team has a big performance coming up, and dancing choreography with my tallness has been a bit of a struggle for me lately.

Anyway, I went to a social last night, and a guy I danced with (also non Japanese, and slightly taller than me) commented how he’s used to dancing with much shorter follows, so sometimes taller follows are a bit harder for him to dance with, but he said he found it really easy to dance with me :)
It was a comment that I needed to hear at the time I needed to hear it

odd, dancing with someone near your height is ideal lol.

A bitter hidden compliment: danced with a woman on several congresses, we had good dances and there was some flirty tension between us. At the third or fourth congress we met I asked her to go for dinner together to have some talking, and her indirect female speech answer I deciphered as: "I see how you dance so I guess you get laid a lot, so no, I don't want to go eating with you..." I was kinda shocked about her reply and didn't know what to answer. Should I have mentioned I never got laid on congresses? And am I a loser if I never got laid on congresses? If so how many times would be correct to get laid on, let's say, ten congresses? Later only I realized it was a hidden compliment about my dancing. I just didn't know I get laid a lot. It's bizarre: for years women avoid you for being a clumsy beginner, and later when you got better they assume you must be a playboy - to avoid also.

So, by this logic, there must be some sweet spot around the intermediate level that you guys just never notice? Darn, that's so funny I wished there was enough data to come up with some fancy curve we could name something ridiculous like "The looser/playboy paradoxon". Then again, it wouldn't be a curve at all

You dodged a bullet. She is full of herself.

The lady in question had a fallacy in her logic. Good dancing can increase your social status or social capital. Then the social status can be exploited. There are many non-good dancers with a lot of social status who exploit it. I think there is a theorem in there somewhere rather than a paradox :D we will need a few guinea pigs to step up to prove or disprove it
