Anyone been to Istanbul Dance Marathon?

I'm thinking of going but departing whether to get stay at the venue with breakfast only and attend the workshops/socials, or to stay somewhere cheaper nearby and get the party only pass.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences at this festival (they have socials and workshops) and what they thought of it?

I heard it's a nice event. I know some people going to Smyrna as well this month.

Political clashes between Erdogan and the liberals upset he arrested the mayor of Istanbul/opposition leader
I had the pleasure to experience tear gas in Istanbul when I was sightseeing the center back in 2013. It was the first day of the Gezi Park clashes, so I didn't know about it. Suddenly I couldn't breath anymore, this feels terrible. The air was strange and I thought about some chemical accident nearby. I saw people fleeing downwards to the sea, so I followed them and air started getting better. Not a nice memory, although the city is really worth a visit.

Never danced with her. Is she good?
She's very good at some things, but will you like it or not, depends on you as well. She's not universal for every taste. But it will not be boring, that I promise.

Important point for the teacher is that I've danced with many of her students over years who were very good and I don't know anyone who took his classes and didn't claim positive impact on their dancing.

Can you elaborate?

Who do you consider universal?

When I danced with her she felt universal. I second that her students (that trained with her in person in SPB) are usually pretty good. Some are really good.

I know you sit out many songs. Universal dancers don't. Universal follows will match the song, the partners energy, etc. and create emotional dance. It takes energy from her, sometimes a lot, but with some people you can be sure dance will be very good no matter what and usually great.

From my experience it's better to let Sveta ask herself for songs she likes when she's in the mood. And there are guys who stalk her for years and somehow haven't got dances. Something's not clicking.

I thought a popular dancer's preferred method of not dancing was by not being on the dance floor?

Svetlana doesn't dance the whole evening nor attends every party. She's a teacher first. She most likely has 10 privates booked before she even arrives at the festival.

I guess that's why she doesn't need to always be on the dance floor all the time as she can just produce more dancers like her and proxy herself.

Yep. That is what the ones I have known (not at personal level), tend to do. When they do not want to be asked they leave and go outside. But they can also say no to certain people while still wanting to dance.

Only festivals that I was at with her being present was Vienna and Mambolove like I said above. There at least she was social dancing almost all evening.

Perhaps she was not that popularly known before Covid shutdown.
