Bolero, Danzon, Bolero-Son, Danzon-Cha and all the confusion around it

This one: However, the confusion I lived is with percussion players. Some of them actually Cubans. Telling me Charanga is a different rhythm and then playing what I consider a version of Pachanga.

Bolero, Danzon, Bolero-Son, Danzon-Cha and all the confusion around it

Yes, that is part of what led to this confusion, many if them played Pachanga. So at some point there was a confusion with the terms. I think there was even a song by Charlie Palmieri talking about the correct term. Let me check

Bolero, Danzon, Bolero-Son, Danzon-Cha and all the confusion around it

BTW, in this context of percussion players using different terms: I had a couple of discussions with percussionist speaking of "Charanga" as a rhythm, often being "Pachanga", but some of them were stating it is different rhythms. And even if being born out of a local way of playing Pachanga...

Bolero, Danzon, Bolero-Son, Danzon-Cha and all the confusion around it

I had my stuff mixed up, I SHOULD not combine Mr. Rioja and Salsaforums. You are absolutely right. My confusion is from different conversations with different percussion players, sometimes people combine terms or call them differently. But "your" version came out as the correct one. And "paseo"...

Bolero, Danzon, Bolero-Son, Danzon-Cha and all the confusion around it

A ver señores, probably I‘m captain obvious as all my life but as this is a forum, just to make sure: I learned: Baqueteo is a cinquillo with some „kicks“ as it is in the intro - so more „haitian“ or „bantu“ „Paseo“ is a clave-adapted groove consisting of a baqueteo in one bar and a 4/4 in the...

    The Polls

I read in this meeting he showed him a picture to prove his point, apparently it was not from South Africa but from the Congo? I don't know, I'm forcing myself to keep distance to the news these days. It has an amazing therapeutic effect!

    The Polls

Tons of them! Probably most (or many) rumantsch talking people speak them all, as usually french is (or used to be when I was in school) obligatory in school and italian really close to rumantsch - but of course you're right. For electoral purposes yes, but in general it is well seen when they...

    The Polls

Fantastic n theory, but already in Spain and Switzerland that would reduce the number of potential politicians to linguists, and in PNG the president would have to be a genious. :)

    The Polls

It's the sad thing about most debates, including the ones in social media. People are not talking to each other, every side is only talking to their (potential) supporters and every side is only waiting to hear what they want to hear to applaude. The opponent can say what he/she wants, it will...

You Belgians have to fight for your right to give official names to the Belgian versions of Moule frites and éclair in Flamish! :) I never had better ones than there, including Bretagne (where Moules are fantastic, too, of course)

    The Polls

May I correct about the official languages in Spain? We usually speak about 4: - Castellano (what is often called "Spanish") - Catalan - Euskera (Basque) - Gallego Valenciano is considered by many to be a language, there is many others who don't. I consider it more a dialect of Catalan...

Songs with lyrics that ruined them for you

...unfortunately, nearly every song of the Charanga Habanera and so many other Timba bands. My natural tendency of listening more to the music than the lyrics has saved me many times when listening to their music and dancing.

    The Polls

Again, perhaps the point of view changes depending on where you live. I have some ukrainian students, I see their pain whenever another of their family members or friend is killed. I think your “smiley” communicates a relaxing distance from all that is happening, which some of us don’t have. I...

Sorry, I'm probably asking a stupid question - but I have no idea what the TVM regime is. And before I start looking for any possible connection between Putin and this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_voie-machine I prefer to ask you directly: What is the TVM regime? :)
