I've been staying off social media for the most part since it's such a time-suck and mainly full of depressing news these days. But I wanted to mention that Timba has lost on of the great innovators who was a big part of the Timba explosion of the late 90s. His car was broadsided by a Transtur bus at the corner of 3rd and Malecón.

He has maintained his popularity throughout the years, although he's not as big as say the reggaeton artists these days. I remember in the Animales de La Música Cubana documentary by Jen Paz, Alexander Delgado and Jacob Forever were planning when to schedule a concert and they said "Not that night because Paulito is playing and everyone will go to his concert". Of course this was back in 2009 before GdZ became huge.

Paulito's album "Con la conciencia tranqila" is considered one of the most important Timba albums of the time.

It has been such a shock and is such a tragic loss. May he rest in peace. He lives on through his music.
Here's his 20th Anniversary concert. Starts with a long medley of songs with just the coristas singing the main coros. At about 06:13 is when they go into De La Habana and Paulo comes on stage.

Just published on Havana D'Primera's YouTube channel. Alexander played trumpet in Paulo's band for many years.

super sad, i learned a lot from his music and live tapes. one of the most explosive and inventive live timberos, had a facility for coros and improvisation that made his live performances so addicting to collect. also composed the majority of his songs as well, he had a very unique outlook, very mature and introspective songs. i'd been reconnecting with his music in the last couple of months, checking recent live performances and he still had his voice in very good shape, good as ever. i've quite enjoyed reading the accounts on what he's meant to younger musicians and the respect and admiration his peers had for him. a terrible shame.

I read the caption and assumed it was on the Malecon around there, but due to the waves crashing over the seawall. I'll be there in 3 weeks. The mood is already sour and moral is low. I wonder how this will affect things, at least in the dancer community.

I hope you have a good trip despite everything.
