    Salsa Classes in Los Angeles

Anyone from west la? I just moved here and want to sign up for salsa classes. I know a bit about it, but I'm struggling with salsa on1. So I did some research and found a lot of academies in LA and it's quite overwhelming. Would be great if I could get some recommendations here. Thank you!

    Sweating

I wouldn't say I like it but some people don't pay much attention to it. Quick dry clothes I think don't really help, maybe cotton would be better.

    Learn Spanish with salsa music

Great! you will learn a lot of colloquial words. Pachanguero is like a Party guy. That word is originally from Colombia.

For you this can be danced as salsa?

Exactly, this is something more cultural. It's like adding the Venezuelan drum style to salsa. Some movements can be used but I don't think you can dance salsa listening to that musical genre.

For you this can be danced as salsa?

Sure, but this is not salsa and we could learn something using this music, but it's hard for me to get into salsa with this genre of music.

For you this can be danced as salsa?

I’m not sure where they are from :( I saw it on social media and thought it was interesting. So, the point of those instructors is to add Afro-Cuban elements to Salsa dance, right?

For you this can be danced as salsa?

Lots of instructors promote Cuban salsa classes with this genre of music. Do you think that's right? As a Latina, I have difficulty recognizing this genre as salsa.

The problem of salsa for beginners

Usually, they'll test your level to know which class is right for you. They might offer you private beginner lessons first so you can learn the basics before joining an intermediate group class.

    What happened to Merengue?

Merengue is mostly danced in Latin America. Since I arrived in LA, I’ve noticed that it’s rarely danced here. I wonder if you don't like it?

    Filming social dancers?

Some dancers don't mind being recorded; they actually like it and say, "Hey, tag me on IG!" For me, it would be weird if you recorded me without asking first. I guess you have to learn to read the vibe from dancers who don't mind being recorded.

I totally agree with you! Russian Salseras are impressive, their movements are completely smooth.
