i'm not claiming to be an expert on either - but this is what i understand from both of them:
i dance lambada which is a subdance of zouk. many of the songs i dance to are zouk tracks. http://www.zouklover.com/
it is much more flowing, slower and sensual than salsa. helps if the girl has long hair as we have to do neck rolls etc. ...

many people seem to take up zouk and lambada after having danced salsa...
reggaeton is the blend of hip hop styles and latin music. which is pretty much the way it is danced as well although it is possible to dance salsa etc. to it....

Do you think that will defeat salsa? I don't think so. Salsa has survived many decades and it's gotten better. Most rhtythms surface and hit the top for a while, but they decline. The thing about Salsa is that it showed up first as Son, then it became Guaracha with Pío Leyva after Mambo climbed the top with Pérez Prado and Beny Moré’s innovations, then as Changüí, then Pilón with Pacho Alonso... And every time, people find the ways to revive it. I don’t know. It may be a matter of witchcraft. Salsa is a deity.
