Which Salsa Congresses Or Major Events Do You Plan To Attend in 2018?

Rostov sounds great and if I could get there easily, I would go. I don't want to go through the hassle of travelling to Moscow, then trying to figure out how to get to the middle of nowhere.

One of the best way to fly in there is from Istanbul by Turkish airlines or from Prague by Czechk airline. Both have non-stop flights.

I have long service leave coming up in about 2022 (the thought of which is what’s keeping me going in this job!) I had some ideas and rough plans, but now looking at this thread, I might have to plan ten weeks Congress hopping in Europe :) Assuming the congresses will be welcoming and viable for a woman in her late 40s around beautiful young things... (they aren’t in Australia :( ) I’ll definitely think about it. The chances of a guy tying down this serial backpacker/athlete before then are slim; that being said, I will be visiting Italy in a few months...:D

I registered for Paris several months ago already and booked my Airbnb at the same time too, basically a year in advance :p (By the way there is space for another person in the Airbnb :) )

Going to my hometown congress in January, Brasov "National Salsa Congress" in Romania. :) It's a good opportunity to be home and the DJs at the Brasov congress in 2015 are still the best I have ever seen at any congress.

I "applied" for Prague Marathon yesterday, hopefully I am "admitted" :)

Considering Rostov in August so that I get to experience dancing in the mystical Russian lands.

Probably going back to Warsaw in November. Of the other festivals I went to in the last 5 weeks, not sure I'll go back to any other one besides Warsaw. (And I have a feeling we'll keep the Whatsapp group from this year going until the next edition :D )
Just add next year's to the current one!

I am sure azana can give most men on this site a run for their money salsa-wise..
Oh, I don’t know about that :); I’ve barely been able to dance this year and have only got my salsa confidence back by visiting Tokyo again (currently in the salsa desert of Shimane!) I would need to start practicing a lot and finding some classes.

I will take anyone on on the hockey field, though :)

Salsa festivals in Europe sometimes have football games. We played in Prague last two years. It's such a mistake from injury and leg relax perspective, but so much fun. Even elderly people like us like to hag fun.

I'm reconsidering Warsaw fest. Yes, it might best in the world, but seems I'm done with huge events. I do not enjoy them that much. Or I might become one of the "clique" people. Will dance with inner circle nav pretend it's a smaller event.

Šibenik, Vilnius (mambocity baltic), Rostov, Rīga is on my plans so far. Would love to go to Berlin, but seems too much for August already.

Is Berlin really worth it?

Vienna is much smaller than Berlin and better :) I may return to that. Rostov looking less likely thought I would like to check it out.

I met and danced with both organizers of the Berlin Salsa Marathon in Sibenik. It was being heavily promoted there too.

It sounds much more appealing than the BSC in the Fall, so I'm considering going. Would also be my first time visiting Berlin, so I could sight-see as well. It's looking quite likely now for me.

Smejmoon can become the big fish in the small pond..

BSC is not worth it. I checked page of the Berlin Marathon. Like the Prague people, they have borrowed from Tango (they explain it on their webpage). I am surprised that their registration is still open. They have been promoting it a lot since at least a year.

I think I know of at least one or both (if other is the one with very short hair, she leads as well and danced with her in Berlin and Paris) of the Berlin Marathon organizers. I danced with her at the 2017 Paris congress. On the Sat night I went to one of the milongas. She showed up later at the same milonga as well. I think she recognized me from the salsa congress. I could be wrong but I got a strong sense that she expected me to ask. Being busy dancing with others and waiting for a right tanda to dance to, I planned to ask her latter. By then she had moved to a different part of the floor, which made it difficult to Cabeceo and she kept talking with a couple of ladies at her table (which makes Cabeceo much more difficult). I wasn't sure if she was trying to avoid getting asked (it is hard to tell in Tango because I follow the Cabeceo way of asking). It was a good example of friendly salsa person being affected by Tango standoffishness :) By midnight I had to call Uber to go back to the Paris congress.

I need to go somewhere in August :)

One of them definitely has short hair, and the other has longer hair, but I think she ties it in a bun so it's much shorter. Anyway, they were both wearing promotional tattoos. I connected with both of them only at the last party in Sibenik when they were not dancing as much and when I was finally in a zone.

They are both friendly, but yes you need to dance with them before they open up to you. I would have been much more intimidated asking in Tango since I'm a newbie at it. A lot of the Berlin people I met were extremely musical and fun to dance with.

I have one friend who just registered today for the Berlin marathon, so I'm guessing there's still room for me if I choose to go. A bit different from Prague which sells out months before.

You should come!
