Just curious, but in Egypt and Dubai, are there native citizens who go dancing, or is it all ex-pats and tourists?
no, loads of egyptians and arabs out dancing...probably more than the ex-pats.

i've not been to dubai yet, but have met some awesome dancers from there on the congress circuit. egypt has some world-class dancers waiting to be discovered...imho, partly down to belly-dancing (a combination of body isolations and musicality) and the awesome sense of fun here.
a night out in cairo typically finishes at 6am, and people are used to having a good time without alcohol. in the uk, 'party' venues with lots of drinking, like bar salsa (good dancers on mondays & wednesdays & loads of atmosphere), have the danger of getting bumped into and hit on by drunks. whereas 'social' type venues often lack a party atmosphere.
egypt is famous for being laid-back and religiously-tolerant, so most salsa clubs here are in bars, and about half the people drink and half dont - but everyone has a great time! usefully, ('thanks' to the former british occupation) the vast majority of the egyptians who dance salsa speak great english...
slightly less usefully, it takes forever to get anything done here (laid-back, remember!

) so my web designer, already 2 weeks over deadline is now 'sick'. once he recovers, i'll be posting profiles and video clips of some of the local dancers to entice people...

i also got some hysterical footage of leon (rose) mambo-walking like an egyptian, LOL.
