Could be that timba, like rumba means just a party, not musical genre. I don't know.

Timba is an old term used a lot in rumba meaning the part of the song where things music get furious and the dancers go crazy. There are lots of definitions really, but that's the traditional usage of the term as Adalberto said in the Team Cuba interview.


It sounds like they did a version of this song (below). I am assuming the DJs don't do the arrangements when they do these songs with various artists. the beginning is obviously rumba and then it it pretty much changüí a la Revé. The Revé pianist, conguero and bassist are listed as producers of the song, so I expect it's their arrangement.

The parts that feel specifically timba are at 2:40 and 3:18

You're referring to the track by Los DJs Timberos? I know next to nothing about changüí, a la Revé or not, so I'm not qualified to comment, but it certainly has a lot in common with son.

Yes, the one with Revé. Maybe there are many songs by Revé that you might like.
