What I'm listening to right now...

For me he's very danceable. (On 2 of course. On 1 would be frustrating.)

Are you dancing on2 with the timing pause234pause678?

I dance both on1 and ET on2. Both methods have the same timing, 123pause567pause. Wouldn't have a problem doing either method to this song.

I very rarely dance. On the rare occasions I do dance then my preference is P2. I used to do ET2 though.

Either way, you're missing my point: there is nothing technically difficult about dancing on 1 to Cal Tjader. But it would feel like a missed opportunity.

Actually I got the gist of your post. This song is constant motion. Not sure it really matters what beat you break on.

There is nothing particular special about the 2 in this song. There is a section around 1:43 that accents 2/6, but by and large the stronger accents occur on beat 1 where the phrase starts or transitions to the next section.

Since you would dance 234,678 are you doing something to high light the pause on beat 1?

It's not just that song, or even that artist. It's all Latin jazz and mambo music. When I only danced on 1 I loved Latin jazz but I never wanted to dance to it, In fact I considered it unsuitable for dancing. Once I learnt on 2 and tried it to Latin jazz it was a road to Damascus moment.

You could argue that that's just my personal taste, however: in the mambo era, in the US on 2 was widely regarded as the only correct way to dance; mambo/Latin jazz tunes get a far better response at events where on 2 dancers are present.

Ultimately I'm not suggesting you shouldn't dance on 1 to that tune (or any other). Whatever floats your boat. But I do suspect that most followers either don't enjoy dancing to that sort of track or only enjoy it if the dance is on 2.

I hate to upset Yuca ( again) but that song brings back many good memories. dancing live to that close to the stage and Tito, is an experience one never forgets
I forgive you. Dance Mania 1 and 2 are 2 of the greatest albums of all time. Santitos Colón was such a great singer and of course TP was arguably at his peak.

I read that Dance Mania 2 was a lot less successful than its predecesor which is a shame as it also has some seminal tracks.
