What I'm listening to right now...

A bunch of stuff I found on the stream of a Colombian DJ couple playing a ton of rare stuff I can't even imagine.

El Raton - Skorpio

RIO CHUCUNAQUE - ORQUESTA COFRADÍA

Oido - Juan Y Su Gente

Fuego - The Latin Connection

Pa mi pai chango - LOS FABULOSOS DEL CARIBE

Some random dude I have never met sent me a friend request on FB, I accepted. Turns out, he is like me and he posts music on his FB page every day and most of it is awesome!

Si Tú Me Quieres A Mi - Chuito & The Latin Uniques

INTELIGENCIA - LOS HERMANOS RIVERA

that is a great son. Great stuff, Chris. Some stuff I've acquired lately and been listening to:

They'd be useful, in moderation, for regional gigs but at a congress? I doubt it.

That's interesting... By regional do you mean UK ?. The last gig I did here I played that style as well as other styles and everyone seemed to like them One guy even commented that it was one of the best program selection he had heard in a long time ( he said he travelled to many locales in the SW )..

As to congresses, I have no clue what they play but have read tons of derogatory comments about the music ( even on this site ) So .. what DO they play at those events ?

Yes UK. Romántica can be very palatable to those who are not hardcore salsa fans or dancers. As re. congresses: most of the vids on Name That Tune are from congresses (I think) so that gives an insight, although a pretty general one I suppose.

The complaint on the thread in question is that DJs are playing stuff that even people who are knowledgeable about salsa music don't know. I think a lot of promoters don't know how to choose DJs so they work on the assumption that someone having rare records is a good criterion.
