"Same Page"

You and I seem to be on the "same page" my friend! "Los Soneros del Barrio" are one of my all time favorites! My favorites from them are: "Aprende a querer," "Ahi na' ma'", and "Noche como boca del lobo."

I'm sure you know that their conga player, Chino Nunez, is doing well with a solo CD titled: Chino Nunez and Friends, It's Show Time! Tribute to the Dancers On1 and On2. Chino continued with them for a while, although he was doing his own thing. However, I recently heard that he is no longer with them.

By the way, have you heard a tune by Tabaco y Ron (tabacoyron.com) called "Olvidese del reggaeton?" It's hot! They've come a long way and are sounding great!

'Ahi na ma' is one of my favs too :) along with 'Pirana', well.....I like 'em all :)

Not got that, is it good? I've got a couple of his solo tracks (off compilations) but that's all.

:)

No, I've not heard that one :(

After the awful Christmas Salsa tracks (see the other thread) I chose Amy Winehouse, Back to Black as an antidote.

This is a great album 8)

Arctic Monkeys dancing shoes - latin mix from Rhythms del Mundo Cuba album...

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/...bum?playlistId=202049670&s=143444&i=202049796

for a sample...

I saw this album in FOPP, I read the track listing, and I was like "EHHH, these songs are NOT latin, what a stupid album!".

It doesn't make it clear from the art work that these are latin remixes, sometimes with spanish lyrics. I suppose I could have guessed. I am very tempted to buy it now after listening to the samples :-) Cheers!

Hi Swannie, I thought the same and was very confuddled about it all but bought it anyway  'cos I'm a curious sort of bint (and it was for charity). ;)

You know what? I actually quite enjoy it :D At the very least there are a few really different (and good) cha cha's on there, my favorite being 'The Dark Of The Matinee' by Franz Ferdinand, sounds like it shouldn't work.........but it does! :D

The real surprise for me on the album is 'Still haven't found what I'm looking for' by Coco Freeman and U2, if anybody would have told me there was a salsa version of this song I'd have made them wash their mouth out with soap and sit on the naughty step  But it really does work (in a strange 'what am I dancing to?' sort of way ). I know there are people who are going to love it and people who are going to hate it but as long as everyone remembers this whole project is for a worthy cause hopefully those who hate it.......will hate it in silence or at least say ' it's not to my taste, but it is for charity' :)

These aren't the usual 'Berna Jam style' re-mixes, this album is The Buena Vista Social Club fusing with some really big names in the pop industry to create something which hopefully will appeal to a wide audience and help raise money for natural disaster relief and climate change awareness.

Please, nobody PM me to send this :D If you think you may like it......dig deep and buy a legit copy ;)

The Chino Nunez CD is good! I did a mix with five of the tracks from the CD when it first came out. I don't know what time zone you're in, but if you let me know that you're listening to my radio show today, I'll play the mix for you. I'll be monitoring this site while the show is in progress. Chino is releasing a new CD in January 2007! I'm looking forward to it!

I will also be playing the Tabaco y Ron song sometime during the show. It's a great song! For a DJ playing to a mixed crowd, it is the perfect song to segwey between Reggaeton and Salsa.

As per my signature block below, my show takes place 6pm - 10pm Central Standard Time; which is GMT -6. Listen if you can.

Yeah, I slipped a Cabas song into that mix. They called it Salsa, but it's not really.... After the mix, I'll play the Tabaco y Ron song for you.
