What I'm listening to right now...

The DJ did not know the name of "Sonido Bestial" ? LOL!

yes, it happens a lot.

common when is a mp3-player DJ that, 1-doesn't an idea of which music he or she does have or 2-has a poorly organized music collection. Info like "track #6" and "blank" album doesn't help to spread the word accordingly.

good DJ's care about the music and the history that is behind it. Compilations help a lot when the full catalog is not available, but it also increases the possibility of losing it's historical integrity.

The song is a fantastic example of what the best salsa tracks should be all about, but unfortunately it is a demanding track dance wise speaking, so that is probably why you had not heard it before. Personally speaking, I was always careful as to when and what crowd I played this song to, during my London and Rio de Janeiro days.

Of course, I am also sure that there are numerous salsa "djs" out there that have never heard of it, even out numbering those "djs" who play a song of this calibre and importance, without knowing its name....LOL

Wonderwoman, it makes me happy that in these days of salsa dancing razzmatazz, where many loose the (musical) plot, there are people like you with solid musical tastes. I recommend that you investigate the music of Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz further, as there are other gems in their musical history waiting to be discovered. :D

I had definitely never heard the song before, in two years of salsa dancing, one full year of going out 3-7 nights a week... never played here

Only 3 couples danced it that night, one a pro couple, I asked the guy for the name of the song later, and he couldn't think of it and they are performing it next year. He was surprised I hadn't heard it. He has better taste than most in our scene.
