What I'm listening to right now...

I know this has been done to "death " but.. this version by Pa Sabios is probably the best.. great horn and keyboard solos and, it then turns into a descarga Pal Monte

I am in a little salsa music lag. I have been listening to Gotan Project, "Mil Pasos" by Soha and "Odio" by Romeo Santos. Maybe I will mine this thread for inspiration.

good question! i was wondering about it aswell.

I guess its a kind of fusion a lot of his songs have a 'musica tropical' or cumbia sound. Nelson Gonzales, though he is from venezuela, was (is) closely connected with the Colombian salsa scene ,has worked with artists such as fruko & richie ray whos music also has a lot of fusion

The new track by el Gran Combo de Puerto rico

What are your thaughts?
Charlie Aponte's absence maybe felt, but i think its better than his solo project. It has that EGC sound that makes you want to get up and dance anyways

Maybe its just me , but the production sounds a bit wierd to me, the vocals seem to be less prominent than they should be. I personally like the old style of mixing salsa with the vocals quite loud in the mix.
I also thaught their 2010 album 'Sin salsa no hay paraiso' had a wierd sound production, it sounded over compressed to me (squashed) . but it was a good album.
