what adv (or int) dvd's do people own?

have just ordered my 1st dvd (shaka's adv on1 and on2 - for later ;) ) and wondered what dvd's people own (and great ones would be helpful).

Nowhiteshoes,

There are tons of DVDs out there. I have DVDs from guys like Leon Rose, Shaka, Ismael Otero, Super Mario, Orville Small, to name a few. Shaka's vol. 4 is good, as are the DVDs I have listed above.

I got into DVDs because that way I could learn faster, rather than do the one move thing from an instructor per week. Plus, I can always come back and check the moves out, whereas with an instructor, once you forget the move you may never get the chance to recap it, as the instructors cannot usually remember what pattern they thought several weeks or months back. So, I would encourage you to get what you can.

By the way, I notice you are from London, so you should keep an eye on Leon Rose and Mario. They are awesome, and are just as good as any of the big boys in the US.

all makes sense. i notice the price difference in shaka compared to some really expensive ones in the UK. marios offering his for £11 - ive got itchy credit card fingers.

BTW have attended quite a few of marios classes; if i still lived in north london would attend his workshop programme. leon rarely attends sos (sunday venue) anymore (although ive not been attending regularly for the last 6 weeks but would be surprised by the change). think leon teaches wed but i go elsewhere.
thanks for info

I remember that Mario told us at the berlin congress, that he's selling out his DVDs as he's started using the internet for new stuff. If you take a look at salsaclass.tv, you'll see for yourself.

I managed to get all 5 DVDs when I was at the congress and it for me it as a good investment. So if you like me prefer to watch a DVD instead of watching workshops online, I would buy them.

SnowDancer,

I got the DVDs when they were still full price, and they were good value even then.

helps livin in a 3rd world country sometimes!

Those are pretty good prices, even with the exchange rate. I'd like to order a couple before it gets even worse. Wasn't the historical rate something like £1 = $5?

Anyway, I was thinking of getting 3 and 4. Are the disks fairly independent of each other? In other words, are there any unusual moves or terminology that he uses in the earlier disks and assume you know?

The DVDs are completely independent. Even when Mario is using a term like "Upside-Down-Turn" he's going to show it, so that you know what to do.

And my currency calculator just told me £1 (GBP)= = $2 (USD).

have had a quick blast through 3,4 and 5. my personal preference (so far  ) is for 3 and 4 but its early days. both very good imo and he breaks things down.

now just need a practice victim/partner...or will just take it bit by bit

Nowhiteshoes,

Have fun !!!

I am pretty much done with all 5 DVDs now, but volumes 3 and 5 had a few more challenging patterns than volume 4. Really cool moves, and they increase the way you think about moves, opening a lot of doors to variations.

Once you finish them, you would be able to read his moves in a clip very easily, as well as for many other dancers. And you would be able to do about 95% of what he does in all the free sample clips he has on his website. Now that is what I call incentive.. lol.
