Wall's color for my own little dance studio

I am building a "personal" dance studio ( a small one ) in my baseman, and I am so excited . I am trying to decide what color should the walls be. This dance studio will be a salsa dance studio primarily and a little bit of bachata, mergence. But salsa is the theme

what color would you say it would be appropriated ... just thought I ask to other salseros :)
 
How cool is that! Good for you, PielCanela! :cheers: Usually, a soft beige or somethiing not extremely bright works really well with wooden floors. :) Anyone else?
 
I was going to suggest a beige, or deep cream colour, nice and bright and airy but calming too. Maybe you could put a red stripe or something horizontally round the room, if you want to inject a little colour to the room, red always makes me think of salsa.
 
Hey! How lucky! But I'd say decide depending on the color of all your salsa clothes!!!! They should show for when you take pictures and videos and also check yourself out in the mirror.

Yes I am planning to put mirrors, and even a ballet bar ( or something like that) so I can practice some of the more advance spins . Now if I could only have a robot partner, or coat hanger with wheels with a stuffed long shirt then I could practice patterns when my dance partners are not available

Ok so I am leaning to the beige-white for the walls. For the floor, I was going to put wood floor but is going to cost me around $500.0 which would not be that bad if I am sure i will stay in this house for a while but I maybe moving to a bigger city ( LA, NY, SF,Chicago) with more access to salsa, dance classes etc. so I want to make sure I can bring "my studio with me"

I saw the videos of Henry Herrera and he is dancing in tile, so I am thinking to leave the floor as it is ( concrete) not sure how to make it smooth though, maybe I will sand it or something, I was planning to paint it in a wood kind of color, but I am not sure if the paint is going to make it even less smooth.

got the mirrors ( 3 of them) 5x3 feet from Home depot, 55.00 each , my friends and I have been already practicing between the paint cans, tools and constructions materials :) ( the washing machine and dryer were in the way so I moved them to a corner - so there still work to do to get them hook up

I been looking at "movable" dance floors, they cost around $500.00 (for a 10X10 feet, but you need a level surface) you just put install them in minutes and take them apart fairly easy.

Well if you open up this studio in memphis I'll practice with you 24/7

too bad I am in central wisconsin, otherwise for sure we need more salseros/salseras

we are still building the salsa "society" here, this city has only 30,000 people but if we can get some 10 to 15 people we will be set

I don't think I had hear about this company, but now that you mentioned I wil search it in the net.

what i did before to find vendors is typed "dance studio floor portable" in google and checked the first entries that came out
 
As far as color goes, you want to make it a space that you'll want to be in. If it's all beige, then you might get bored more quickly than if you had an exciting, energizing place to practice. Just a thought. I'm an interior design major and the University of Memphis, and I have one semester left. YAY! But, if you when drastically in the direction of color, not only will the space seem smaller and darker, but you don't want to much distraction if you're trying to film yourself, etc. Light, cool colors (beige, light blue, green) make a space seem bigger, brighter, and colder. Darker, warmer colors (red, orange, even a rich brown) make a space seem smaller and more intimate, warmer, and darker. So if you go this route, have it very well lit! I'd go with a warmer, but still neutral color. Like a sand/tan color with some bright, cheerful accents. Get some red in there to spice it up! You could even use the red and texture one wall with a sponge...that's a really neat affect if you like projects. ;-)

You may have already decided but I'll add my 2 penneth anyway!

Walls: I'd go for 3 walls in beige / cream and one wall with reds / oranges / yellows - something vibrant that will inspire passion when dancing - having only one wall like this will mean it's not overbearing.

Floor: I'd say no no no no no to concrete floors - you'll notice it when you're dancing in there it'll be hard on your knees, ankles and feet especially - you need something with a bit of give. I'd say the moveable floor sounds like your best bet that way it doesn't matter if you move on - but believe me you'll be glad you didn't stick with concrete!!

Ditto!!
you'll ruin you knees and ankles!! put ANYTHING in, but concrete. even on carpet, if you dance on flat shoes with very smooth soles, it's better than concrete.
Cheap posibillity may be to put in some kind of vinyl floor-cloth (this is what my dictionary says... may be not the right word)
