vicious kicks

i was dancing with a woman last night that had a brutal kick on beats 4 and 8 (her foot was way off the floor with a sharp kick). ive seen girls doing flicks on these beats but this was something different. is this from cuban, remember rosa klebb from james bond it was more like that. also when dancing xbody dont these flicks on 4 and 8 (when they do it all the time not at certain times) throw them off balance when doing xbody turns etc? thats what ive found but only dancing with 2 girls like this and found they've then been off beat on 5,6 (or by 1, not sure just feels odd). :?

Yes, this can be from Colombian-influenced / sometimes 'Cuban' (in the broadest sense) background and I have also seen some teachers teach beginners in whatever 'style' to tap or kick on 4 and 8. When I questioned them, the argument was that it is easier for a beginner to 'do something' with their feet to mark every beat rather than get the idea of a (fluent) pause or transition on 4 and 8

I for one don't share those views. I think it can be OK in some (but not all) generic Cuban tracks / timba/ reggaeton etc if you like that sort of thing. I would not want a partner in X-body to be tapping or kicking on 4 and 8 (there are occasional transitions where this might be OK for one step or two in a dance) because I usually want her 'free' foot to be in a (led) transition at that time. Tapping or kicking destroys any transitional momentum you may want for the lead / follow.

Unless you are going to find a way discreetly to tackle her on this I wouldn't ask her again unless dancing a form of Cuban / Columbian

I'd get my kicks elsewhere !

Time to move into some nice complex moves...or really fast moves and get her off the kicking fad, Eh!

Yeah - definately got to be careful about her kicking you are someone else. I've seen kicks - but they were all low level kicks and not all that sharp.
