Trying to find the musical origins of certain tunes

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

it may be an unusual request, but since this seems to be a forum with a community with a strong proficiency regarding latin american music, my request may actually come to fruit:

As a hobby, I'm researching the musical origins of the soundtracks of classic video games.
Super Mario, Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, Megaman... the stuff I played as a child and many of you probably know too. Now as it turns out, the scores of many of those games have been heavily inspired by other well known music from all kind of genres, ranging from classical music over rap music to jazz, rock and electronic music. For example, the soundtrack of the Sonic the Hedgehog games has been heavily influenced by jazz and funk music:

while Zelda has been influenced by several progressive rock bands:

or Mega man:

Sometimes the tunes seem to have been taken almost verbatimely from well known songs of earlier decades (as in the the Mega Man - Journey case).

Now, my particular interest for which I opened this thread is this song from Mega Man 1:

I think that this song sounds as if it has been heavily influenced by latin american music. In fact, I think that it basically sounds like an electronized version of several classical salsa tunes.

Which leads to my request:

Can you name me a song - very likely from latin american music - that sounds as similar as possible to the above mentioned tune? Not only similar in style, but that actually incorporates the melodies used in this song?

I would be grateful for any help.

PS: I had to modify the youtube links as the forum wouldn't let me post them. If you know youtube, you probably can complete them easily)

Megaman1. Does not sound Latin America to me. Start of phrase is like ska horns from Jamaica. And the resolution of phrase Slavic or could be just any centraleastern Europe of 19th century.

Also reminds me of Ennico Morricone, so I'm giving up. :) but rhythm wise sorry, I don't think this is Cuba.

P. S. Don't give up! I've been on similar quests for years, searching for tune I've heard and sometimes it's a success. Even ~10 years for one tune once. You have base recording, that's better. Maybe you can even find producer of the game.

I know that genres are defined by more than just melodies (also rhythm, instruments, pacing etc.) I just had the feeling that the samples used in this song were very similiar to what I have heard in many latin american song. Thanks anyways, hopefully someone has some more ideas...

Haha, thats funny because the closest thing I found by myself was also from Willie Colon - Asi Es La Vida (but think this was released later than the 80s).
Nevertheless, that was a very good suggestion, thank you. I think I will dig into this dude further, maybe he even has a tune that is an exact match.

Hello,

thanks for your submission. The video linked has obviously a lot of common with the tune I linked since they are both chiptunes and supposedly have both origins which stem from a jazz related genre. However, in order to be a potential source of the linked tune it should stem from an era BEFORE the game was released, that means before 1987. Nevertheless thanks for your efforts.
