Training for the World Salsa Summit 2019

To all SF members critizcing videos postedby a member - do you think sometimes?
Do you like speaking to yourselves? If someone posts videos of him/herself dancing and you start giving destructive critics - do you think you are helping Salsa and SF somehow?
Would you like others critizicing you like that, specially openly posting who you are?
I really don’t get it.

I just read the whole of this thread. Some of the posts are just really sad.
I wish I could ignore them - but they make me upset.
There is some really pathetic SF members. Just ridiculous statements.
I remember when I joined this forum. The ambience has always been partly soaked with some narcissism and some arrogance, partly also with statements that are more aggressive than necessary, but this thread in particular is really disgusting.
I have no problem coming back here as there is some really interesting members and usually I learn here.
But a part of the things written here are just ridiculous - I have no idea where you get the right from to judge others like this. I wont become more clear than this.

It's the anonymity sometimes. Helps people write things they wouldn't say in person. But SF is in general friendlier than other forums. Maybe because many of the long-term posters are not anonymous (one way or another), who knows.

People who perform or post videos of themselves dancing are looking for feedback. If they look bad feedback will be negative. No one is obligated to be "nice" and support someone's delusions. Being butt hurt over criticism directed at someone else is weak, and on par with having delusions about one's own dancing.

There is a big difference between constructive criticism and taking down someone through insults, personal attacks, snide comments or degrading them in public. Especially coming from behind the veil of anonymity.

I wasn‘t meaning only you, but of course also.
Your last sentence of this post with what you imply is a good example.

Take your „strong“, your „manly“, look at the mirror and be just happy with yourself, that‘s fine for me.

It‘s a pity you don‘t have another way of communicating because I enjoy some of your posts and videos.

Yeah, I'm conflicted here too. I think honesty is valuable and anonymity is valuable because of that. Salsa performance scene is full of ********. But picking on someone just because they took "wrong" path is for kids and chicken.
Also there was religious war because of schism in fm cult. You don't expect rational behavior in such cases :)

Constructive criticism will not be accepted by a delusional person. They will come back with an excuse or an explanation to counter everything you say so as to maintain the structure of their delusion. You've seen that here already from Hervin. So sugar coating is a waste of time. In his own words the audience ignored him/looked away during his dance. In a less structured environment he would've been booed. I'm sure there are many silent members or just readers who appreciate my direct comments about Hervin's dancing which offends the senses. As for the rest of you, I don't mind being the one to say "The king is naked".

Oh, the irony...

Ok, that's it for this thread for me - but please feel free continuing to speak for the silent readers out there. Somebody has to sacrifice.

Good luck on your journey. A lot of credit to you for getting it out there. I think the criticism is mostly fair but when wrapped up in the positive comments it evens out. If everyone said you were great it would become a bit useless.

Ultimately, I think you know what to improve, anyway.

You will have detractors and salty individuals constantly in need of salsa and dip for that perpetual chip on their shoulder.

People who will support you in your efforts (I am one of them). Im not brave enough to do dancing performances and it takes strength to let it go and perform.

Feedback is often subjective however, if you are performing for an audience, not everyone will enjoy it. Adjust what you want to meet that (if so desired). But this is something you are sharing with others and some people will never be happy until the rest of the world joins them in their misery. Best of luck and have fun!!!!!

I don't remember what your comments were in this thread and if they were strictly related to dance skills. I do remember a nick that made allegations in this thread and has never been seen again. From what I recall Hervin was gracias enough to acknowledge the critics.

This isn't about sugar coating valid critic. It is about civility. Are you confusing civility for political correctness? One can be civil and not sugar coat. It is perfectly legitimate to disagree and have different opinions. Thankfully, SF isn't a random online comments section where words are to be used violently.

I remember in some other threads where I and others have called you out. That was certainly not sugar coating. Neither is this.

Looks like you're the one who's confused and meandering, sometimes restating the obvious and other times I don't know what point you're trying to make. Is English not your 1st language?

Just for the record, the OP never asked for our feedback on his dancing. He started the thread to share his experiences and his knowledge if anyone is interested. Not to ask for the feedback of some anonymous strangers on the internet.

Performing in a competition IS asking for feedback. Posting in a forum and expecting responses IS asking for feedback. Offending the eyes with bad dancing is DEMANDING feedback.

Anyways this is BS. All of you engage in veiled, poorly subtle, and outright blunt criticism of dancers in YT videos that would hurt anyone's feelings to the core. That's why I don't post favorite dance videos here, a bunch of haters. For once someone really deserves to be set straight and you choose to be saints, laughable.

Actually, with the exception of several posters, most SF-ers are not harsh and belittling even when they give criticism. Many understand that it's all just a personal opinion and not the holy truth.

Why the dig? A simple no would suffice for the answer.

True but he made a couple of statements that personally I found objectionable. Firstly stating that he didn't deserve to be eliminated from the 1st round of the comp. What an insult to the other competitors who really did deserve to get past the 1st round. Also his comments about being FM's student strike me as ridiculous. Not because of who FM is - I've never seen an FM vid that does anything whatsoever for my personal, subjective tastes - but simply because it's so misleading.

Therefore I think it's a bit rich to imply that Hervin is above criticism. The guy needs an urgent reality check, not an ego massage.
