top socials in LA (on1/2)

Hi, I live in NY but dance on 1 and 2.. I'll be visiting LA for a week in March and I'm wondering where the best socials are these days?

I'm thinking of heading down to LA this summer so I would like to know this too. Is there a reliable website on this?

Also, info on San Diego would be useful too.

Which week in March are you talking? With the month starting on a Saturday, there's actually nothing going on next weekend (the 7th-9th). 1st Saturday is the Clave Jook Joint down in Santa Ana (on1/on2 mix). 2nd and 4th Friday is Mambo Madness in Carson (on1/on2 mix). 3rd Saturday is Mambo Outlet in Culver City (on2). All of them have great DJs, but I think the dancer level is highest at Mambo Outlet. Of course there are other clubs/events that go on in the meantime, but these are the ones that I like and attend regularly.

USC and UCLA have socials too, but I don't tend to know exactly when they are until I get a facebook invitation. Steven's Steakhouse is a club in Commerce that is popular, particularly on Sunday nights but I think they have dancing on other nights as well. Wokcano is a club in Santa Monica that is popular on Tuesday nights. There's outdoor dancing on the 3rd St Promenade in Santa Monica on Sunday evenings I think from like 6-9ish. Hacienda Hotel in El Segundo is the Westside option on Sunday nights (Steven's is on the Eastside). Hit me up if you want more specific info though, I just kinda typed stuff up as it came to mind.

One of the Djs (Mayimbe) is in Seattle this weekend and that guy is awesome!!!!!He's as good as anyone you'll hear in New York, music for the dancers, now there's a concept.....

I haven't been to NY so I can't compare, but I really like Mayimbe's music. He and the other 2 DJs from that list (Dario and JoJo) all play vinyl, but I'm sure it's just a coincidence that they have the best music ;)

Dude, "Mambo on Wax"...It's Mayimbe's second trip, I think he made a huge impression esp with the On2 crowd, we love him, also he is good buddies with some of the local Vinyl DJs.
I really should explore the West Coast more when is it comes to mambo, I admit I am too New York centric, I know San Fran is a hotbed, but I've not been to LA, but your comment about it being leader heavy gave me pause for thought....Who are the LA celebs On2 ?the only LA celeb On2 I know is Beto Rojas!!! (exclusively on2).

As well it should give you pause [/grumble]. I don't really pay attention to who is a celeb or what not (I didn't know that Beto was a celeb lol) but I guess Rodrigo Cortazar and Selene Tovar would qualify?

GForce85, i'll be in Irvine from the 15th till the 30th of March.
Do you mind pointing me in the right direction to gather info regarding On2 socials or parties around the area ?
Else if you prefer let me know and i'll PM you :)

Thanks!

I have to make a disclaimer that Irvine is FAR from LA but if you will have a car and don't mind a few long drives there's:

Mambo Outlet (mentioned above) on the 15th. At 50 miles/80 km it's the longest drive, but it's sure to be worth it (people regularly drive all the way from San Diego to attend).

I Love Salsa Social in Garden Grove on the 21st. Shortest drive but it's still about 15 miles/24 km. It will actually be the last time this social is held (DJ/promoter is too busy to continue) so I estimate it will be a good one.

Mambo Madness (mentioned above) on the 28th. Drive length in the middle of the other two. It's a fickle one; sometimes it's GREAT and sometimes it's slow, and it's hard to tell what causes either. 33 miles/53 km, coin flip.

Most places out here are mixed on1 and on2, but Mambo Outlet is guaranteed 99% on2. At the other two events you should still be able to get a decent amount of on2 in as well. Steven's Steakhouse (mentioned above) will be about 33 mi/53 km away as well, and I'm pretty sure if you go there on Sunday you'll get a decent amount of on2.
