This week in my dancing I'm working on...

And I must remember *not* to rest.

I'm the opposite at congresses... I need to remember to pace myself just a little.

Saturday night and late Sunday night at the Scottish congress I was a bit of a walking zombie some of the time. It's Olamalam's fault - wine in the afternoon! ;) Some cubes of chocolate every now and then on the Sunday night really helped to keep the energy up though. :D

haha it was your idea, not mine ;)

Resting ruined me at the Berlin congress so I made a point of not resting at the Scottish congress and it worked :) Every time I was too far gone to follow I switched to leading until I recovered :P

I did the same but following instead of leading.

This week: Body Movement
attending my first ever congress showed me i am a block of wood, no matter the compliments i get locally

Hm, why do I just have a Déjà vu? Right, it reminds me of the first time I took a body movement workshop with an acquaintance of mine and she told me something similar. :) Since then I've set myself the goal to have at least one bodymovement workout (guided by a dvd) every week.

Finding a way to do it that doesn't lead to lack of sleep which seems to lead to moving violations in the a.m.

I have been looking for a good solution to this issue. I work from 9 am to 8 pm (sometimes longer) and I try to go dancing a couple of times on weekdays, in addition to weekends. My new strategy--as of last night :)--is to take a quick nap when I get home before going dancing (that is, if I get home before 9, which sometimes does not happen). 20-30 minutes, not more, or else your body goes into deep sleep stage and either you can't wake up (if you are really tired) or you wake up very groggy.

Here, most weekday salsa events do not get going until after 10 pm, so if I get there by 10:30-11, after taking my nap, I can get a good hour and a half of dancing (and still get a decent amount of sleep afterwards); usually at least a few of my favorite leads are there, so it is an hour and a half of very nice dances most of the time.

This weekend (Amsterdam Festival, yay! :D) I'll be working on remembering how to dance (I haven't been out for 15 days) and dancing as close to non-stop as possible. Time to start packing...

This week I'm going to work on having fun and not thinking about anything. I fell like I've improved a lot recently and I plan to take a break from thinking before the weekender I'm going to on Friday.

This might sound odd, but I'm concentrating on keeping my head still! I look like a bobble-head doll when I dance... must be the metal headbanger trying to get out

Working on my inside and outside turn with appropriate functional armstyling, spotting, not losing balance, staying on the beat and not looking like I'm overthinking it. :P I have to say, learning those moves gave me a strong AHA moment from social dancing, now I finally fully understand what those leads were trying to make me do (I think I did do it right a few times, but with a confused look on my face)

The next few weeks im working on reviewing and bringing as much of the stuff I learnt at the Amsterdam Congress workshops as possible into my regular social dancing. Im going to try and bring back my regime - 20 mins of isolations before going out each salsa night.

 just seen a video of me plus reviewed some photos, my hands are too flat in styling. i hate over styled pointy fingers but clearly there is a balance to achieve. back to the drawing board. also arms to close to body in spins/turns. also gonna work on completing and committing to arm styling and full extension.

This week I'm working on actually getting out in my new town for the first time as I can get my bike out of the shed now. A class tomorrow night and hopefully a bit of social dancing on Friday before flying to London on Saturday :)

@MacMoto, you got message

This week i'm working on trying Bachata and cha-cha-cha. Already feeling sorry for the follower who dares to say "Sure"

Improving my following in cross-body and Cuban styles last week and this week. SirDanceAlot and I were switching following last night.

Notes from last night:

- It's amazing how you can feel heavy in places to a leader but you don't feel that yourself as a follower.

- Work on spot spins and cross-body turns and spins.

- Reduce tension in places from an 8 to a 5 (could be due to being slightly late being a guy follower; response time)

- Improve response time.

- Work on producing a better arc in the air on hand tosses.

- Copa into left turn/spin into cross-body 360 needs work to keep balance when coming out of the turn.

I've been leading the same moves for way too long. It didn't bother me until I was youtube tracking a leader that I liked so I could get a better gauge on him. After the second video, I could tell you every move in his (current) arsenal. I've danced with the guy and never had a problem with his repertoire. But watching the same patterns over and over on youtube, and realizing I do the same thing , has made me get back to wanting some new moves. I had an old video compilation I used to make of intended moves for me to learn. I hadn't updated it in FOREVER. I just started a new one last night.
