In the world of physics I can see how you could make a fuss about the differences but in general use and conversations the two are used interchangeably(maybe erroneously). Velocity is speed with direction. Anyway don't really want nor do I have the time to have a physics discussion. I think you got what I was saying.
 
We're off to our Saturday night Latin social. I'll do a few turns but rarely if ever spin...not my style. My girlfriend will 'spin away' at will once I let her go....especially during Bachata. Supposedly folks turn more than spin in Cuban salsa but everybody does some mix without attention to labels. Turns, spins, some will spot, some won't. Now I'll be looking more out of curiosity.
 
Spotting is taught in virtually every dance style that involves spinning. Personally I think it looks more elegant, but each to their own I guess.
