The best Puerto Rican salsa tracks - your suggestions please

^ Excellent choicies MAMBO_CEC!! Woody's Blues was composed by the great jazz trumpet player Woody Shaw.

And that is one awesome track from Willie Rosario. Here's another great one...

If you want swing from Willie Rosario then this:

Doesn't really get going until 2:55 so give it a full listen!
Yes!!! Jose Madera arrangement. Every trumpet player loves that intro... until you have to play it for yourself! LOL Dig the clave switcheroo on the mambo.

I think an argument can be made for a difference in sound and feel between the bands from New York and the bands from Puerto Rico in the 70's and 80's. I'm generalizing, but NYC bands had a harder aggressive sound and the PR bands were a bit more smooth and refined -- the really good bands all swung like crazy. There were more non-Puerto Rican ( and non-Latino ) musicians on the scene in New York which also had an effect ( eg, Barry Rogers, Larry Harlow, Lewis Kahn among countless others ).
No I think you're right!!! I think all that changed with romantica, then both New York and Puerto Rico both developed a refined "cookie cutter" sound!!!

and this..

There's some nice piano improv at the beginning, cha cha comes in at 5:23 and Salsa at 6:52.

To me it all sounds a bit the same and a bit monotonous. Is that a good thing to people who love salsa? Do you like it so much that you do not need the surprise?

So why don't you post something that's not monotonus and surprising? We are all open to hearing new stuff!! Most of us here listen to a LOT of salsa music and we are presenting here a small section of what we listen to. Surprise us!!
