Sydney Salsa Congress - who's going?

I'll be there. I'm thinnking of staying for an extra week or so after too.

The social dancing in Sydney is great.

I agree; Syd social dancing is well worth hanging around for :D !

Not that I'm going this time, but I'm really speaking from experience: for many years, I've been spending every Jan (yes, the whole mth) in Sydney, just to dance, shop & potter on the beach....

I've stopped doing it for the last couple of years & really feeling the withdraw symptoms  ...!!

Any international SF member at all...? If anyone plans to also visit Melbourne, let me know ;) !

Salsachinita, what's the common style of salsa in Melb? I heard that it's more predominantly cuban and colombian style rather than linear styles. I wouldn't mind a trip down there, but I can't really pull off a a reasonalbe lead in cuban or colombian style :)

It's a shame you can't make it to the SSC this time round.

Hi Shaw!

You will find that Melbourne has all sorts (not that you will find Colombian style easily these days); depending on the venue.

I think linear vs. circular is about 50/50, in total. I dance all sorts, except for NY on2  ......

There is a VERY successful school which teaches Cuban style, and they seem to be everywhere (hence the general impression); however, if you can plan your trip to coinside with Park Hyatt (last Fri of the mth, I think) or anything organised by Melbourne Salsa (just Google ;) )...

Check out this link: http://www.salsaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1941&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15. Serge's listing is fantastic!!

I'll be there with my fiance. We're spoiling oursleves this year as we got to go to the New York Congress last month

You were there? Maybe we danced without realising... :)

No, I'm not going to Sydney this time round since it's just after hubby and I move so we'll have neither time nor money...

I have noticed that there's a direct flight from Tokyo to Sydney. So Sydney 2009 is a definite possibility - maybe I finally get to meet my sista then, chinita? ;)

Unfortunately we wouldn't have, I was too overwelmed to dance with anyone I didn't know - the quality of dancing was so much higher than my neck of the woods

I'm originally from Taranaki in the North Island, but now live in the beautiful Bay of Plenty!! The issue with our scene is that we don't having any Salsa teachers anymore, so, as part of a club we teach free classes at a local nightclub.

Looking forward to all the great learning at the Congress
