Sonido Bestial

i like the song, but i havent had the chance to dance to it yet... its one of the songs that i wont dance with someone i dont know... the chopin part i would probably do solo with footwork matching the piano.

I dunno, I feel like Chopin tended to focus on the piano solo part to very intricate/specialized levels. That guy just saw piano playing from the point of view of his intricate/super fast piano solos but piano playing is so much more!

Amazing song, truly a masterpiece but.........I hate dancing to it. Lots of clave and musical changes, a real challenge. For the piano solo I would breakout the solo shines and footwork.

Sonido is a very complex piece for musicians and dancers.

in the case of the musicians you can find videos on YouTube of music fans trying to mimic the piano portion while some DJs cut it or remove it for dancers.

I have watched enough videos of Richy ray playing the song. but never anything that sounds like the original version. all the videos are from 90's and after but no video from the time it was made.

the story below

He said he wanted to play like gran combo but instead it would come out as Chopin or Beethoven lol

One of your compatriots with his partner dancing to said song with help of some of the best salsa/mambo dancers on the planet...i.e Congresso Era dancers!!

I danced to this on stage live with Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz. It was freaking awesome....and cold! It was at some open air event in New Jersey where they shut down the entire neighborhood on a very cold November night. But it was freaking awesome!

edit: it was October in Newark, NJ.

It was dope as f'!

wow, lucky you

Has not any one realised that, not ALL latin music was composed for dancing socially . Even if one used this song, it surely would be for a interpretive Martha Graham style performance.

I am not sure how much of thought musicians are giving to the dancers when composing their music. I guess not much. At least in other genres of dancing I have seen instructors/teachers talk about the music to dance to. Never seen that in salsa.

If I were to dance this song, it would be with a very specific type of partner. You do have an artistic freedom to interpret this song in social/partner dancing context as well :)

As a very famous band leader (Salsa ) once said " I do not know what the hell they are dancing to, but, it sure is not what we are playing " .

A think a more typical e.g is live band performances, who quite often seem to speed up some of their "hits " .

What one uses for teaching of course, may be very subjective. Much depends upon the style of dance in the genre as well as personal taste . I do discuss this with my beginners .

For me this is the best salsa of all times.

it gives an enjoyable challenge to every salsa fan (musicians, dancers, singers, DJ's), etc

I believe the dance floor spoke volumes..

Hey, it's not easy salsa to dance, it's salsa on hard mode for good dancers. I personally think a lineal salsa approach is not the best way to go. that would be an over simplification to the situation.

Good song but tricky for most student dancers to social dance to it. IMHO this song is more suited to performances.
