La contraclave as dessert of all clave problems.
Might have known you'd turn the topic to food.
After dessert comes coffee and maybe a shot of limoncello.

Salsa, sabroso, azúcar, la yuca se ablanda y para los pollos and then it’s me???Might have known you'd turn the topic to food.

DJ Offthread in the house!Time to be controversial: the Indians in Leicester, UK cook cassava (yuca) better than anyone in Latin America.

I think this song is in 2-3 clave.Would you suggest some pieces?
I'm confident it's 3-2. I've heard it numerous times as it's massively popular in Cali, Colombia.I think this song is in 2-3 clave.
In my experience definitely yes. I guess that the proportion is around 80% 2-3 vs 20% 3/2 in salsa dura and 60% 2-3 vs 40% 3-2 in salsa romantica. One of the next days I will do the calculation on my collection (I began classifying the songs according to their clave to improve my skills in clave detection)....
Are pure 3-2 tracks more common in salsa romántica than in salsa dura etc?
But do you classify them purely by how the song starts or do you separate those that change clave and those that don't? Plenty of tracks that start 3-2 then change. In my experience definitely yes. I separate them...of course I can make mistakes in my classification (especially at the beginning when I was less expert), but now it seems to me that in at least 80% of the songs clave direction is pretty clear. But do you classify them purely by how the song starts or do you separate those that change clave and those that don't? In that case, how about %s for the following:
pure 2-3
pure 3-2
3-2 then 1 or more clave change
2-3 then 1 or more clave change
Even better you could get even more detailed i.e.
3-2 then 1 clave change
3-2 then more than 1 clave change
Likewise for 2-3.
NB 2-3 then 1 clave change is very rare. I found a famous one a while ago but I have completely forgotten what it was.
I listened again to my 2-3 to 3-2 songs but I think you are right, all of them have multiple changes
In a different thread you could post the 20% that you consider ambiguous then we can geek out over them. Bear in mind that some old S American tracks don't have clave-specific percussion.

I can answer, but I have the data on another notebook
I devoleped a chrome extension for personal usage to get the information from discogs (if available) for a song I am listening on youtube and then download the song and save the information (with other data that I edit, like the clave) in my library: I could add the button "Open thread on salsaforums"![]()
I post the statistics on my library, as promised

Our impression that in romantica the 3-2 clave is much more frequent is confirmed in my sample (44% vs 12% in salsa dura).
