So how was new years?

Hey everyone - so how did your new years go? How did you bring in the new year? As for me - I went to club Noche in downtown portland. It was OK. I was really hoping for a better turnout. I spoke to a lot of people throughout the week and they all said that they were going to go to Noche - but there wasn't a lot of people at the club. I think what happened was the club was charging too high of a cover charge. They were asking for $20 in advance and $30 at the door. For Portland that is pretty steep - I saw a lot of people (including some of my friends) go to the door and then see the cover charge and then turn around. So that was a little disappointing. However, a lot of my good friends were there and its always fun spending time with them. I'd love to hear everyone else's new years stories.

I went to Chilworth village hall near Southampton. £8 ($12) no bar, so we took our own booze and food :D

There was a chocolate fountain and mulled wine. The DJ got so pissed, he had to be replaced !

The floor was good, every dance was a good one, my friend popped the Moet at Midnight and I got a lady's number and a kiss :D

I greeted the New Year at the Granada and it was nice. As far as I could tell, all of the venues were price gouging patrons that night. For Granada admission for dinner + dancing was $99. For general admission (dancing only) it was $50. General admission began at 9:30pm. Just for comparison, regular nights are generally $15 unless they're featuring a special engagement.

A lot of the regulars weren't there, no doubt due to the high price of admission. Some of my friends were planning to be there and they did show up -- plus others I didn't expect to see. Another nice surprise -- I was only charged $40 when I arrived. Still high but hey, I'll take it!

Navigating the dance floor wasn't as bad like on a normal Saturday night but one still had to be careful and use good floorcraft. They had to stop the dancing briefly to clean up the mess caused by the midnight balloon drop then dancing resumed. I stayed until 2am when the reggaeton started kicking in. All in all, a bit pricey but a fun evening.

Hope you all had a great time ringing in the New Year. Looks like DD did :D

What happened?

What happened with the DJ - what did he get pissed off about?

In Memphis, the New Year's Bash was great fun. I'm sure the guys were happy because there were quite a few good female dancers...some that haven't been around in a while. So it was nice to see them!

It wasn't as crowded as the normal Saturday night...which I do not understand, because what in the WORLD could be better to do on New Year's Eve than Salsa?!? Crazy crazy people. ;) But it was nice that the floor wasn't crowded...and there were plenty of good dancers. Every dance was a good one, and I danced exactly as much as I wanted to. (Which, as you salseras understand, is rare. Either every guy is asking us for every dance and we're exausted, or we don't dance enough. )

All in all, it was a blast. MS was there too, and that helped the night a lot! Everyone in Memphis was so glad to see you, MS!

i really enjoyed studying investment portofolios...the stocks closed at 3.08, while the value of the Dji index raised up to the level of perfect market performance closing at 0.00 $$
that was a sad night..

New Years Eve at the Claverton Rooms, Bath, UK. Admission £12 - little higher than normal, but not extortionate.

A great night, particularly after a couple of weeks of no dancing (other than practice) - I was vaguely worried I may have forgotten how to dance!

High part of the night was my birthday dance (My birthday is New Years Day). DJ called me up (my girlfriend had tipped him off) and I had to dance with my partner in front of the whole crowd (150+ people).

My instructor came up and joined me and I ended up doing a Salsa threesome for the crowd - even managed to get an 'Oooooh' from the crowd after a particularly flashy move, a la Rohan Brown :)

Afterwards everyone was asking me if it had been rehearsed - as it hadn't, I take that as a great compliment :)

I was in Orlando for Xmas and New Year. On New Years eve I was watching Disney fireworks from my balcony, champagne in hand. Didn't go out as I was flying home the next day. Actually I haven't done any salsa since Tuesday 13th December. I'm worried I've forgotten how! Had to prove to non dancing other half that i'm not addicted - have gained about half a stone though (7lbs to you yanks) so I'm hoping other half might be happier about me going out dancing now they have seen the result when I don't!

Heh, first look here in the new year.

I went first to a party in an friend's flat, because I wanted to meet some new people and also I knew all clubs are too crowded for dance. The pary was kind of wild and we did not wanted to spoil it with too much salsa torment over the innocent non-dancers. About 4 AM we ("the salsa people") went to a Cuban salsa club in our city to meet the Cuban New Year, which comes in 6 AM local time. There were many people other than salseros - Cubans that live here, and strange for me, they did not dance. That was a good tatctical move, btw, because by the time we arrived many people left and there was enough place to move freely and even dance :) There is not much to tell, because I danced all the time until 9.00. After that I slept 12 hours.

I wonder if we can handle meeting also the Japan New Year next year (it comes first).I think noone here knows traditional Japan dances, so we may dance salsa.

Happy New Year to everybody, btw :)

Hi everyone! Just getting back in the swing of things. Just moved to a new place and of course no Salsa in sight! Big bummer this holiday season but anyways. Glad to see quite a few were out dancing! :D
