Hello, my fellow SFers. Again this year I am extending a personal invitation to you to come enjoy the Seattle Salsa Congress on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 28th - Nov. 30th 2014.
Congress website: http://seattlesalsacongress.com/
Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/325917050910142/
Again this year our organizer has managed to put together a superb line-up of artists, I happen to think our congress is now one of the top Congresses in the US. Check out the headliners:
• Maykel Fonts – Cuba
• Santo Rico Dance Company – New York
• Zafire Dance Project – New York
• Juan Matos & Amneris Martinez - Italy
• Johnny Vasquez & Anna Zidaru – Italy
• Adrian Carbajal & Anita Dos Santos – Spain
• TJ Pennant & Pablo Calderon – Costa Rica
• Alien Ramirez – Miami/Cuba
• Alma Latina – Mexico
• Esfera Latina - Colombia
• Daniel Sánchez & Desirée Guidonet – Spain
• Ivo Vieira & Shani Mayer – Portugal
• Fortezza Pro – San Diego
• Quest Salsachata Crew – Los Angeles
In addition to Salsa there will be Bachata and Kizomba instruction (bootcamps and workshops), and they’ll each have separate rooms for social dancing.
As you know, Seattle is a wonderful place to visit, so my fellow SFers come and enjoy a wonderful salsa event and a world class city. I look forward to seeing you here in Seattle.

For those that have attended in the past, I want to point out that the organizers have moved it this year to another hotel down the street from.where it's been held before.

I had a great time at the Seattle congress last year :) If I'm done with my GRE/grad school applications by then, I'd love to come again this year :)

Jeeze, with so many boot camps I wonder if anyone will be in the regular workshops.
AFA bands, I think the last one they had was the infamous "twenty minute song" band.

Do they typically do a preparty on thursday? Or are all systems quiet on Thanksgiving? I might just drive up to Vancouver since it's just a regular day there, but it seems like it'd be a good time to explore Seattle without a lot of traffic

Yes there are two pre-parties this year, the 1st one is the Pre-Pre party at Belltown Dance Studio in Seattle on Wednesday ( there might be a few of the artists especially the ones who are based in Europe), If you are here you can combine some sight seeing plus the Pre-Pre Party in Seattle. The 2nd Pre-Party is on Thursday (Thanksgiving night)@ the Congress location ( At Sea-Tac airport), apparently there is a night club at the Hotel where the congress is being held, from experience, this pre-party is more like a meet and greet for the artists, as most of them start showing up late Thanksgiving day and Friday, as many of them have workshops planned for the Friday. I am hoping to go to both.

That's great! Well as long as it's not like San Diego's Pre-party. There were maybe 13 or so people there when I went. Cool. I'll stay in town and see the sights and then get my boogie on during the night! I'm very impressed with the organization and communication of the event details so far. Kudos!!!!!!!

The countdown starts!!! Just one month to go....feeling excited...Looking forward to seeing you all in Seattle!

What is the usual attendance numbers? Is it folks mostly from the west coast?
Difficult to answer the first question as I think it all depends on the lineup. We are nowhere near the San Fran Congress in its heyday, Last year our Satuday night was oversubscribed. The Sunday night had the lowest attendance .Sorry I can't give you definite numbers. As regards to where folks come from, yes it's primarily west coast USA, west coast Canada, but as we are growing I've met people from the east coast, midwest, southwest, Mexico. You are always welcome!!!

It's a new venue this year, does it have a bigger space and are they selling more tickets?

I think it is, but this turns out to be a plus if you go to the workshops. Lots of west-coast people aren't familiar with top east-coast groups like Santo Rico, so you get some good classes that aren't packed.:-)

Thanks. Would love to. Right now it looks like either a death valley hike or seattle congress :)

This is the answer to your question from the organizer: And I quote:

"We didn't change venues to sell more tickets; there were complaints from the performers/dancers. In the old venue, the conference center was a separate structure adjacent to the hotel and dancers had to take long walks in their dance shoes. In the new venue everything is in one building. There was also an issue of parking, the old venue has 400 parking spaces and the new venue has 700 parking slots. There were also requirements for additional meeting space to support the Kizomba community.
With regards to ticket sales people always buy last minute, only a few prepare for their trip in advance. I do know that there will be more people from out of state participating in the congress this year, just last night I had a call from a lady in India who is making arrangements to come to the congress. I had a couple from San Francisco inquiring about the congress and planning their trip as we speak. So, I am expecting a big push towards mid November."
