Searching for Grace

Sorry Toan, stealing from your facebook to provoke some more reaction...

Graceful? - yes. Not especially salsay though? - what do people think? If this is what graceful is for salsa than I don't think I want it, though I like it as a random bit of dancing o_O.

I wouldn't personally put this as graceful, beautiful, and as an overall performance experience it was extremely well put together.

I think this qualifies as graceful...i also think that the term graceful implies non staccato movements or stuff that has a noticable flow to it... i guess is the best way to put it...

A few questions for everybody:

Grace v. Elegance - Is it the same for you or do you feel there is a difference between them?

Would you say grace can only refer to a specific styles of dancing? So far the examples were mostly from a very specific style of "lyrical" dancing. Would you call for example a rumba dancer graceful which all the sharp staccato movements?

I typically use grace and elegance interchangeably. When I describe a dancer as elegant or graceful, I'm often describing a dancer that has good posture and balance, is grounded, moves efficiently and effortlessly, creates esthetically pleasing lines or curves, and gives an aura of poise. I think that these qualities can be conveyed through a wide gamut of movement, from smooth (legato) to sharp (staccato), aren't restricted to specific dance genres, and equally apply to lyrical and rhythmic dancing.

Here are a few examples of what I consider elegant Afro-cuban movement.
