Salsa isn't my favourite dance style

And, Im not sure what you mean by Social events ?, as to clubs..?

Im also not surprised, by the music, to which you may have been exposed. .. , or not, No guarantees by any means. there are.good and bad DJs everywhere , musically speaking .

Maybe you should venture farther afield in the social club scene .

Comparing social to club, at a social people tend to go for the dancing, while at a club, you'll have a mix of people going for the music to hang out with friends and have to search to find people to dance with.
I need to approach Salsa differently from Ballroom, not making excuses, just taking me longer to get good at it because I haven't spent as much time learning this style, but not saying that my past experience hasn't helped me make the transition, and i am being challenged, but any progress I see, sure makes me more confident on the dance floor.

I only really know social forms of West Coast Swing and Salsa, but I hang out with ballroom people all the time and go to their parties so people can laugh at me try to do Foxtrot and all that stuff. Once you calibrate for the difference in the ballroom followers, you can do some pretty cool things. You just can't go in there trying to just do things your way and expecting to dance the same dance you do socially, you have to adapt and collaborate to her skills.

That is one of the biggest things I have learned lately, that I can't just always dance my own dance the same with every girl, I have to collaborate with them and the way they move to create something new. Before, I was just trying to go through my part the same every time and hoping she would follow it well. But it is no fun when you try to turn every girl into the same dance.

I haven't danced solo during a salsa, but I tried it out, and it's a nice change of pace, not having to be connected all the time, just like I try to do during a Merengue.
There's so much to learn, and many styles to explore, that it's hard to get bored, even after 6 years
