Salsa Forum's own - Ptwist's Journey as a Competitor for the World Latin Dance Cup

more energy??? with YOU??? you need more energy?? i doubt it.

agree with everything else though..especially on experience..that counts for a lot in any type of competition/sport.

Energy not as in dancing faster or with franticness

Projecting more to the audience and my partner ... hitting certain moves harder and look more natural doing all the above.

Hey Ptwist, I thought you were awesome man, both of you.

My feeling was that there is an energy and joy to dancing I've seen of yours socially and in the Compilation vid (for example) that maybe didn't quite come out onto stage with you.

I suspect that this is not a matter of more work required, but something that more experience and comfort on big stages will bring out of you.

I've no doubt we'll see you go onto better and better results.

I was rooting for you in the MyEmmy chat room at silly o'clock here in the UK ;)

I was not let down.

Hope you continue on this journey !!
I have mixed feelings about this, because....

...competitions might reward obviously plastic smiles, but competitions don't usually reward authentic "joy." :?

As has been discussed on SF in other threads, the elements that are necessary to win a Salsa competition are sometimes (maybe oftentimes) at odds with developing the type of Salsa dancing that works well in social dancing and the type of Salsa dancing that looks great from a purely artistic performance point of view.

If winning some competitions is able to boost ptwist to a higher platform of notoriety for teaching/performing creatively internationally, then I think that would be terrific. But if his "competition-winning Salsa" becomes his "performance Salsa" (which I've seen happen to many dancers), then I think the Salsa world would be losing something.

To me, "competition Salsa" and "artistic Salsa" are two different animals, almost like On1 and On2. It's a difficult challenge to be at the top level in both, since one or the other will usually suffer a little bit. But it's not impossible, of course, and I wish ptwist the best in whatever course that he and his partner choose to pursue. :)

In short, I want to do both. I love being artsy with no restriction or guideline. At the same time competition can improve things such as technique, lines and discipline. All have their pros and cons but in general, I wanted to do this because it was a great opportunity to do something that represented our state (Hawaii)

We want to keep pushing our own boundaries until we find that soft spot where we can really develop our own personal style and substance... we may never know or find it all the way but sometimes the journey is much more fun and enjoyable than the actual destination :)

Here is the video btw.

That was a very awesome routine. No wonder the judges had a hard time deciding who to choose from this category. Your routine was awesome. keep it up!

Oliver Pineda!

I think Ptwist can do both.
