Salsa dancing in Seattle

I had a great time at AVS yesterday hanging with mambo_cec and Lidia. She is a great dancer and he kept introducing me to great on2 follows! I will say that it was a little lead heavy at the venue and that I do not understand what bachata they dance in seattle, it is not sensual or dominican, just basic steps etc.
Glad you enjoyed yourself, Al!

It was great to meet you. You seemed to be really enjoying the music and vibe, I am glad you got to dance with some of Seattle's best follows and I am glad you had a great time...

My experiences from last night :)

BDS is a nice venue, mostly beginner follows and in my taste fairly mediocre music. Corbu has a terrible floor, nice music except for too much cumbia and reggaeton.

I got almost no rejections in both venues, corbu had some good follows but alot of the women were just drunk south americans doing their thing.

All in all I had a good time, tonight I am heading out to century ballroom, hopefully mlk day will make the party worthwhile on ny last night in Seattle :)

One thing I noticed was that parties are awfully short in Seattle, in Israel on thursday friday we have parties till 4 am+. Sonetimes I reach the party at 1 am...

Sorry to be a Debby Downer, but prepare to be disappointed! The Monday social tends to be poorly attended. When I lived it Seattle (until 4 months ago), I would only go to Mambo Pica Pica, AVS, and Century on non-AVS nights if I didn't have anything better to do. Glad to hear you had a good time at AVS.

You know Debby too. LOL!! Great to hear from you on SF!!!

Back in the day when I was just starting out the Monday night practica was the place to go, GM is right though, now it's a shadow of it's former self. MLK day might make a difference though.
The practica is actually in West Hall, on the same floor as the ballroom. Checkout The Tin Table, also on the same floor, while you're there.

Tin table?
A bar/restaurant on the same floor as the ballroom and West Hall. Just checked though, and they're closed on Mondays. There's a lot of night life in the area, if you go and no one's there you might want to go get a drink or bite to eat and come back later.

Hello all! My wife and I will be in Seattle Saturday & Sunday, and would like to know the best place to go out for some great salsa! And, if we were limited to only one night/venue, what would be the most preferrable?

We are both intermediate/advanced dancers and willing to dance on1 and on2. We would love more advanced crowds, but totally not a necessity! If you need any other info let me know!

Looking forward to dancing in Seattle and hopefully meeting some of you! Thanks for your time :)

Firstly some required reading..Lol http://www.salsaforums.com/threads/salsa-scene-in-seattle.15197/page-3#post-285621

Your best bets would be for
Saturday:
Salsa on Alki: with Dj Yambu (One of Seattle's awesome DJs-yes we have many of those):
https://www.facebook.com/events/370594726481142/
and then later on The Century Ballroom:

Sunday:.....
Belltown dance studio:

Corbu Lounge:

*I would highly recommend the Salsa on Alki event from a sheer fun point of view. Hope you enjoy dancing in Seattle!!

I second the recommendation for Alki as the best option during a weekend that’s very weak otherwise. Alki is outdoors, and the weather forecast is iffy as of now, keeping fingers crossed… I would just add that this Saturday the Century Ballroom will be extremely weak due to Alki earlier in the evening plus a big private party where most dancers will go afterwards. The Sunday options are also not so good. Of the two, I’d hesitantly pick Corbu, it may have a few more better dancers than Belltown Dance Studio, but neither will be great. Same goes for the music. The atmosphere will be different, BDS is a nice studio/early night while Corbu is a lounge/late night. You’ll have to come again on a better weekend!

Hey guys, just wanted to let everybody know we had a blast going to Alki! Great recommendations, thank you all! We only were able to go out that one day due to schedule conflicts, but we were able to meet up with Mambo_Cec and lidiap! They were very gracious and hospitable, and made it easy for us to get comfortable despite our inexperience in the area! It was great chatting and dancing with them, and they helped us find our bearings so we could enjoy ourselves :) Our evening with them would have gone on longer, but another party in which they invited us to join them had cancelled :'(

Alki itself was filled with many people of varying levels and dance styles. This mix, along with a good mix of music, made Alki a fun event that entertained me until closing!

Thanks for all your responses, and special thanks to Mambo_Cec and lidiap for their hospitality! My wife and I enjoyed the day!

Thank you for the kind words. I'm very glad to hear you had a good time. Count on seeing us in Honolulu at some point!

Heading to Alki right now, for the last of summer' outdoor dances, and the weather couldn't be better!
