Hey team,

Not sure if this has been done (know there is a club thread but not on point for my scene as clubs changing but the scene is similar) so thought we could all review in an educational enlightening tourist guide thread he he:

Location:

Perth, Western Australia

Population:

Dance Summary:
-----------------

Growing scene which I believe is about to emerge as an excellent smaller scene. Current mixture of Cuban and Linear on1. Some great advanced dancers but they do not always go out as they have been frustrated with lack of dancing/progression in music and scene. I feel this is changing with some strong work by a key studio here in promoting a variety of dance styles and a new night where a lot of on2 music is being played later in the evening.

Social Dance nights (as of Sep 2008)
--------------------------------------
- Tue - Northbridge (cuban predominantly)
- Wed - Subiaco (Linear and GREAT mix of bachata and zouk and cha cha cha (best regular night!!!)
- Thur - 2 predominantly cuban venues
- Sat - 1st and last sat of every month is a social. One of the studios plays an AWESOME variety of music. Really pushing the scene and hope it continues.

main social dance styles
--------------------------
- cuban
- on 1 linear (advanced dancers progress to on2 but has been hard to dance as no music played. This is changing though)
- Brazillian (zouk, samba no pe, forro)
- some bachata slowly growing (so beautiful :) :) :) )

The Great
----------

1) The SUPERB people here. Knowledgeable, fun, exciting and wonderful to be around.
2) The emphasis on technique and the students.
3) All the performance teams. They are working really hard!
4) The availability of the studio and the instructors after hours. Always making it easy to improve.
5) The variety of dance styles.
6) 2 new salsa social nights (wed and sat) to add to existing Tue and Thur)
7) The taxi dancers program by one of the studio (to keep beginners happy and hungry to climb up the ranks :) :) :) )
8) Everyone is pretty friendly and down to earth.

Keys to growth
-----------------

I think the biggest challenge for Perth is developing the social dance scene so we have an opportunity to practice all the great dancing that is now being taught and could be taught if some of the advanced dancers are kept stimulated.

The key is the integration with Australia (eg Sydney) as Perth can be isolated. This does give it a strength though as long as strong ties are founded with the rest of Australia and the world, Perth can create a wonderful dancing atmosphere.

That is the beauty, Perth can be the master of its own destiny and create what it wants.

*so hopefully lots of dancers move here and the studios continue to foster excellent students.
