respect to posters on this forum

I've just be browsing through a UK based salsa forum. I was stunned by the amount of ignorant, and down right rude, verging on libellous posts.
Its seems that the SF posters are a much more grown up, polite and thoughtful group or have very vigilant administrators.

It's a pleasure to come back to some sanity and respect for others!! (even if some of the posts do go over my head!)

I agree with you whole-heartedly, salsology!

I've had some interesting experiences with other forums. For example, I joined a forum that was run by a Cuban lady. On the forum's home page, it asked members to send recommendation. So, I sent some recommendations based on what I find great about salsaforums.com. The response was rude and very mean-spirited. It was something like "who are you to tell me...." "Who are you anyway? What's your name?" She was so mean, that I asked her to unsubscribe me, since I couldn't do it myself.

At yet another forum, I had given my point of view about something. The owner of the site did not agree with my point of view and unsubscribed me. I didn't know why I had been unsubscribed, so I sent him an email and asked him. He really had no explanation other than he didn't agree with my opinion of something music related.

At other forums that I have visited, and there are yahoo and google groups that are the same, either there are owners/moderators who are so controlling that you really don't feel free to express your opinion, or there are posters who are constantly rude to each other.

This site, SalsaForums.com, is so much more professional than all the others that I have visited.

I had the same experience. After bumbling around from forum to forum getting in some rather heated exchanges that left nobody any the wiser, finally found the motherlode of actual information and civil conduct!

* raises a glass to the admins and everyone else on SF *

( never been called "grown up" before :-) )

A big thank you from the SF Moderator team! :D :D :D :D :D
Ditto! :D :D

It really has alot to do with the members though. We have a great wealth of knowledge here from all parts of the world from all levels of dance and musical backgrounds. So thanks to all of our members as well for making our jobs easy. :notworthy:

I opened this post expecting a general telling off after a flame war I'd missed and was relieved to read a general pat on the back for everyone (5 year old joke - Q: what do you get when you lie under a cow? - A: a pat on the back).

I do, however, miss the old days of Salsa Mafia.

I enjoy the interaction on the forum - yes there are disagreements (which are a good thing) but they are generally kept under control and don't escalate to flame wars.

Thankyou for your kind words :notworthy: ..... this forum (and DF) have been my little slice of santuary for the past few years.
It's a real team effort and we really wouldn't be here if we didn't have our like-minded members :together: .....

Yes, the tone of this place is very civil.

I tried to start a positive thread on the aforementioned UK site and it got highjacked by the 3rd or 4th post :(

We need to send smiling28 over there to spread some love and positive vibes

What is this UK board that everyone talks about?

w w w dot salsajive.co.uk

select the salsa option then the chatroom. It's quite a weird setup but you won't have to look hard to find some general bitching about any and everything and a few personal insults thrown in for good measure.
